  • Fat really does help!

I was just thinking about my induction time. I really believe that fat helped me tremendously. I have been browsing the other boards on this forum, and a post caught my eye that said we often eat too much protein and it will turn to fat.

So I got to thinking, well how am I going to get more fat in my diet? I thought the protein was the fat. Well a few days ago I tried an experiment. I had everyday (I know it sounds boring, but bear with me) 2 scrambled eggs, with 2 pieces of nitrate free bacon....but instead of making my scrambled eggs in a separate pan I added two pats of butter in the scrambled egg batter, and then proceeded to scramble all of that in the bacon fat.

Can I tell you it was delicious! It killed cravings big time, and when the people where bringing in cakes and bagels, I was full as can be!

For lunch I'd have some meat in this case chicken (about two pieces) but I purposely used two tablespoons of the olive oil I cooked the chicken in and added it to my chicken and heated it up. I usually have two cups of salad greens at this time and I eat that together. Craving curber until dinner!

At dinner I would have a cheeseburger without the bun of course, and I would either elect to have another cup of salad greens sauteed in the oil of the cooked burger, or I would have a cup of my favorite vegetable (broccoli) with LOTS of butter.

I'm telling you that fat really makes a difference. Because of Atkins I have liberally used tons of olive oil, and salt free butter. The fat in the oils really help me out, and I don't even need to eat tons of meat to feel full. It is a lifesaver that fat is!

    Congrats!

There are plenty of people who mistakenly believe that Atkins is a high protein diet. So they stuff themselves with protein all the time.

Atkins is a high fat diet and that fat, as you have found, isn't hard to add. A tablespoon or two of mayonnaise to dip your meat or veg into, or olive oil to cook your meat or veggies or use as a salad dressing, or butter to toss with cooked veggies.

      brightstar,
What kind of difference did you see on the scale when you did this particular week's menu? I have been trying to add fat here and there. I am usually about 63%+ in fat and 33% in protein. Is that too much protein? I stay around 5% carbs.

I have only dropped 2lbs a week for the last two weeks. I wonder if I should drop more protein. And I take the chromium supplements Dr.A mentions in his book, but I know that body builders take them as well to turn their protein into muscle. So is that maybe bulking me up.

Wow sorry to dump so much on ya. Just hoping you have a clue, cause I sure don't!

DLS, 2 pounds a week is good loss, very good. Once you are past the initial few days, when yes, we do lose some 'water weight' you should expect to average 2 pounds a week or so. We don't expect 4 or 5 pounds a week. I don't think it is even healthy to do so on a long term basis. But with you walking, doing your weights and such, you will 'trim' faster than your 2 pounds a week would seem to account for!

Also, donna, you are about 20 pounds from your goal weight, so losses will naturally slow - though as a percentage of what you still have to lose they might be keeping the same pace Two pounds lost now out of a total of 20 (which is 10%) to lose is the same as 4 pounds out of a total of 40 to lose!

You ought to be moving to OWL very soon to give yourself time to experiment with the rungs and find your CCLL.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

No problem, I don't mind answering questions at all. This week I didn't lose any weight, but I did lose an inch off of my waist. I did have a planned cheat on Wednesday so I was put out of ketosis.

I just did my menu on fitday and I worked out 1949 cals. That included 8tbsp of olive oil.

So for that day I worked out:

            77% fat
            19% protein
            4% carbs

For breakfast I had 2 pieces of nitrate free bacon with two scrambled eggs with 1 oz. of cheese. I cooked the eggs in the bacon fat and added 1 tablespoon of olive oil.

I had 2 chicken thighs for lunch with 2 cups of salad greens. I usually drizzle a tablespoon of olive oil on the chicken and then heat that up at work and the oil seems to keep the meat from being too dry. I also cut that meat up at work during lunch and add to the salad greens which also has a tablespoon of olive oil mixed with sea salt, dried mustard, and a drop of stevia liquid extract.

At dinner I had 6 oz. of hamburger meat mixed with broccoli.

I can go all day on this menu without feeling super hungry because of the oil and butter I will add to my food. I also have been exercising so I might have built some muscle, since I still lost an inch and can zip into some shorts I couldn't fit for 2 years, I think I'm doing okay.

Momtomany1, Elizellen, thanks so much. You two always encourage! I really appreciate you! What great support.

Brightstar, thanks for the info. I had bacon and eggs scrambled in the bacon grease. Hubby loved it! (though he's not on Atkins, he sure loves the food!)

              You guys are great!

I found this thread very helpful! I scrambled my eggs in the bacon fat this morning, not only did it make the eggs taste so much better (I usually have to choke them down) it helped me feel satisfied. Thank you!

Yeah my husband loves his eggs with the bacon fat too. He usually tells me to put tons of cheese in the eggs, but when I use the bacon fat he doesn't complain at all!

I know what you mean! I am having to make myself have something for lunch and it's already 2:19! I haven't had anything since breakfast.

So, where do I find this nitrate free bacon? I'm assuming the bacon I've been getting at Wal Mart has nitrates.

You should be able to find nitrate free bacon at Whole Foods. I live in Georgia, and I can find it in Kroger and Whole Foods. I'm not sure what grocery stores are in Arizona though.
