    Don't know what to do???

I have been with my Doctor for lots of years. I was recently diagnosed with TYPE II diabetes and was given Metformin twice daily and told to eat the American Diabetic Diet! My Doctor told me to watch my carbs but to NOT do Atkins!! I know this woe will work but the Dr. is against it. Don't know what to do?

Why not get a second opinion and try to see a Dr who is more Atkins/Low Carb Friendly?

There is a lot of good information here that might help you decide what to do, Diabetic Reading Info - Atkins Diet also posting in the 'Diabetic' forum might get some questions answered.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

I agree with Cherri ... get a second opinion. Look for a low-carb-pro doctor. Especially since you have to take medication you need a doctor who supports your WOE and monitors your blood sugar levels and pressure closely.

Why not do Atkins and just don't tell your Dr??? Say you've devised your own plan - or is that too sneaky?

Surely if they want you to watch your carbs, this is the perfect diet?

I have never been on a diet that was so successful but that also made me feel so good!

This is a very personal question respectively attitude. I'm sure John will make the right decision, he can feel comfortable with.

The book recommends that diabetes patients follow this plan with medical guidance and supervision, especially when taking medication. There are doctors out there who do support the low carb lifestyle - mine does! And she is one of very few here in Switzerland.
