  • Day 10 of induction, 3 lbs lost!

    Hi everyone!
I begand Atkins Induction phase 10 days ago. I have not been "perfect" but have stuck with lots of eggs, butter, lettuce, cucumber, water, cheddar and cream. I have probably had more cream than i should, and peanut butter by small spoonful now and then. My meats are turkey breast lunch meat and roast beef lunch meat as well. Otheriwse my meats are steak, and chicken and tuna. I didn't lose anything until day 7. Is this what you would consider slow? I am taking an antidepressant, but have been for years and I once lost 15 lbs on weight watchers using this same med, so I'm not convinced it's a big issue. I'm going to consider the candida diet after I do the test.
    Am I just being impatient?
    Thanks for you thoughts!

Slow or fast you lost fat! Woohoo!

As to whether you did great or so-so, we can't tell without knowing how much you have to lose. But think about it...you got the process started, the ball rolling IN the direction you want it to go. That is fantastic progress! Sort of like a jet.. takes a lot of energy to get it into the air, but once it is up there, it takes much less. The trick is not to land!

You might get terribly bored with this plan with that narrow a range of choices. Are lettuce and cucumber the only veggies you can eat? Iceberg lettuce if that is your lettuce, has practically no nutrients. Try some spinach! radishes! tomatoes! mushroons!

Maybe you've lost inches...are you clothes feeling better? I seem to have lost quite a few inches around my waist this time around.

Stick with it, you'll probably have a sudden weight drop. Also you don't mention if you're guzzling your water...its so important to chug your water. Drink, drink, drink xxxx

Would just mention that nuts are not allowed on induction so you might want to miss these out - may help! Also just check your "lunch meat" for sugar.

Enjoy and good luck and of course, well done for the 3lb gone.

Be patient, it will be so worth it!

Re: Day 10 of induction, 3 lbs lost!

Thanks guys! I'm doing ok with water, but I don't know if I get 8 glasses, it may be 6. I am going to cut the pb out and I looked over the lunch meats and they do have 1g of sugar, some anyway, others 0g. I did the spit test and it vanished!! What does that mean? There was some at the bottom, the rest vanished. Is it so heavy with yeast it can't even float? LOL
I bought radishes and romaine and boston lettuce to switch it up. I thought we couldn't have tomatoes? I'm gonna cut he mayo and blue cheese for this week considering the yeast. Next week I'll cut out the rest and get some oil of oregano and acidophilus etc.
I want to lose 50lbs. I don't care when, but that's the final goal

Oh and I have all the other signs that things are going well, like looser pants, more energy, better moods, and no bloating or water retention, I peed for days and days at first, lol. I also notice my hips don't hurt anymore in the a.m. No more cravings either. Something's working, I was just hoping to be one of those who drops 8 pounds the first week or 2!!! lol

Re: Day 10 of induction, 3 lbs lost!

                Hey!

Can I ask if you have read the book? I think that is the crux of the whole thing - you will understand more how the science of this diet really works.

Cutting out mayo is the wrong thing to do. Fair enough you say about the yeast but you have to forget all other methods and follow the great man's advice! Dr Atkins tells you in the book about this that and the other!

You really need to drink water water water - its amazing how it works for getting rid of the fat!

If you can, get the book and just devour it. Follow what Dr A says and trust me, you will lose your weight.

If I can lose weight on this WOE and still feel 100% committed as day one, believe me, anyone can do it!

Again, good luck - did I mention to read the book?!?! :0D

Re: Day 10 of induction, 3 lbs lost!

Okay..warning...tough love coming...don't read it if you get offended easily..not being mean...trying to help.

I think 3 pounds is great for the Hollabyloo diet or if you have a little to lose. The average weight loss is 5-10% of the weight you need to lose. Were you close?

I think you would have done better if you stuck strictly with the induction plan. Dr A gave us a specific list to follow during induction. Some of those foods had limits...ie the cream. Some not allowed until further up the rungs..ie the peanut butter. Some we have to be accountable to ourselves for..ie what are you using 'lots' of butter on?

While you do not have to count calories on Atkins calories do count. You should be eating at or near your BMR. I recommend www.fitday.com for you to enter what you eat and have a look at your ratios..they should look close to 5%carb/65%fat/30%protein. 12-15 of your 20 carb limit should be coming from your veggies. You need to get your 3 cups in a day. 2 cups salad veggies. Doesn't have to be salad. Can be any of the salad veggies. 1 cup other veggie if you aren't doing 3 cups salad veggies. Stay away from the iceberg just because it is low in nutrients and fiber. Check your lunch meat for sugars and carb counts.

I really would consider having a tough look at your menu and seeing where you can be better and if there were lots of times where you weren't legal I would either do induction over again completely clean or I would move up to rung 1 and be spot on with your food before I would wonder about candida.

Good luck. Follow the book and you will do great!!! Stay strong!

Re: Day 10 of induction, 3 lbs lost!

Elsie thanks. That's not tough at all, in fact it's a relief, because I do not want to try the candida diet at the moment. I do have the book, the 2002 edition. I have read most of it, not the heart health chapter yet, and one other I skimmed, all else I did read. I would rather just start induction fresh over and stick to it. If 5-10% is normal during induction I would say I'm close? I was 200lbs bang on, and by Day 10 I was 197lbs. My goal is to lose 50lbs.
I thought mayo was off limits in the candida diet in teh book because of the vinegar? Or maybe I'm thinking of a diff. version of the yeast diet I may have read.
I did the spit test and it all sank, no legs. Not sure what that means, lol.
I also know walking nightly will help. That's my next big lifestyle change, I've been so sedentary since having my kids and quitting work!! Fitday sounds neat, I see it written a lot here so I may have to check into it.
                    Thanks so much everyone!!

Sounds like a much better plan! Strict induction and then right on to the rungs. Be prepared that you won't get the same benefits of weight loss as you would have if you were just starting. Watch your artificial sweetners as they have been known to stall some people...not me thankfully....but others. I just joined an exercise class myself. Geared towards Seniors and first time exercises. Can't say I love it but I paid for 10 classes so I will go. But any movement to start is great!!! Hellman's is an acceptable mayo for induction. Stay strong!
