  • Help on Sausage Stats

    I was at Costco and bought my eggs and cheese - and ended up with a bag of natural sausage. I am not a sausage eater - but it seemed ok at the time.
    I figure I would only have 1 or 2 in the morning.
    Tell me if these are not good for me. I am having a hard time...

    For Three
    Cals: 250
    Fat: 24
    Carbs: 1

      look at the ingredients on the label. is there sugar added? most sausages and processed meats have sugar of some sort added, even if it says 'natural'.

        States the normal stuff: pork, salt, and raw sugar. Is the raw sugar going to kill me?

          kill you? no, i don't think so but sugar is a real no no on atkins, any phase, unless you're talking splenda or another allowable sweetner.

            I'm barely getting 12 carbs a day as is with my veggies and other foods. I miss my whole grains and berries.
            Haha.

              you won't have to miss the grains or the berries. those rungs are coming.

              you can up your carbs. but then you already knew that. up to 20 net a day and the majority of them should be from veggies.

              uh.... i think boonie said she'd take the sausages but then she's not supposse to be eating sugary foods either. LOL

                Annoying. I can't believe I bothered buying them.
                What a waste.

                I was used to eating healthy my other way. Now it's all fat and ugh.
                I can't get it straight!!
                So if something had 1g sugar for 3 pieces and I have 1 piece - I'm being bad?
                This book is so dang confusing, I can't get a straight answer. I need your help!

                      perhaps you can take them back. if costco is anything like walmart you can take anything back.

                      that fat is going to help you lose weight. you might have been used to your healthy eating but then i would ask, why would you be trying atkins?

                      this is what i would say about the 1 gram of sugar....the book will tell you not to eat the sausage and not just because of the sugar but because it is a processed food. but you are a grown woman and ultimately the choice is yours. if you eat the item and you don't crave, if you don't slow your losses then maybe you are a lucky one.

                      do some of us, probably 99% of us, if the truth be told, eat processed foods? i'd bet on "yes". do we read lables and watch for sugar content? i would hope so.

                        Good ideas, Jimmie.
                        I am trying Atkins since I broke my foot in January and can't shake the 10lbs I gained.
                        I had a low glycemic diet prior to this week.
                        Always balanced my fruit sugars, used whole grains, etc.
                        I figured I needed a jolt.
                        And honestly, I had three sausages with two eggs for dinner because nothing sounded good. No desire for anything sweet what so ever!


                        PS - I'll take them back to Costco tomorrow and tell them they taste freezer burned or something. A lil' fib never hurt anyone....right?

                          you don't need much of jolt. you are, according to your stats, just 7 pounds from what you want to weigh. if you are doing atkins, you should be moving up the rungs which means more veggies and fruits won't be far be far behind.

                            well, (disclaimer coming) I'm not advocating blowing off the sugar directives... and I am doing my good work of keep the evil, dastardly sugar demon away... BUT, I really can't afford fancy bacon and sausage with no added sugar, so I do spend a gram on a serving fairly often.. So far, so good... I'm still losing weight, and am not craving sweets. So I think you'd be ok having just one. IMHO.

                              Because I am awful at taking things back I would probably just stick them in the freezer and try them when I am further up the rungs and have that be the only new food of the week. To see how my body reacts. I sure wouldn't be eating them during induction.

                              Kudos for you for stopping the weight gain before it gets out of hand. Be aware that your 3 cups of veggies do not need to be made up of lettuce or a salad of just lettuce. Any of the salad veggies can be used. If you are using iceberg consider switching to a darker leaf lettuce for more fiber and nutrients.
