  • So upset. Been on induction for 1 week and only lost 1 lb!

I started induction on Sunday, but I will admit that I went to a buffet on monday. I ate all meat and veggies, but had a tiny piece of choclate ( I know, stupid), anyway, I weighed today because I felt like I was not losing any weight, and I only lost 1 pound!!! :anger I guess it's because of Monday? I have not cheated since then.

I have been re-reading atkins book, and read somewhere about metabolic resistance. I wonder if that is my problem from starting then re-starting this diet a couple of times. Atkins says if that is your problem, then to count carbs and calories and not to go over 1,000 calories.

I'm afraid I will never be able to get off of induction. I'm afraid that when my two weeks are up I will have only lost 2 pounds. I have drank a diet coke here and there and chewed a piece or two of sugarless gum, but when I went on it before and drank diet cokes, I never had a problem with losing weight. It came off easily.

I guess I will have to eat like I did before when I hated it so much. Eat only bologna, cheese, hotdogs and hamburgers. That is why I never stuck to it before because it was so boring! I was so excited when I found this site and its recipes, but now I am afraid to try them.

Has anyone else had this problem? I am going to cut out the cheating and the diet cokes, it's just not worth it. I am afraid about Sunday though. I have to work this whole weekend, and Sunday everyone is supposed to cook something and bring it in. I am hoping I will be able to resist the food. I might do some chicken wings because whenever we do this, nobody ever brings any meat. I just hate to pay so much for chicken wings because there are at least 17 people to cook for and I'm sure they will want more than one piece of chicken. Nobody else will even spend that much money, they all bring in vegetables or a store bought cake.

Please someone let me know that I can lose weight on induction!

    Hi.

Please do not be frustrated. In order for the diet to work, you have to work the diet. That means no cheating, no eating things that aren't on the Acceptable Foods List, exercising, reading labels and ingredients to make sure you aren't eating excess sugar, eating the appropriate types of vegetables and the appropriate amounts of vegetables, drinking your water, etc.

Re-check your bologna and hot dogs---many of the brands I've seen contain sugar and are about 1-5 carbs per serving size (usually 1 or 2 pieces). If your hot dogs are 2 carbs per hotdog and you eat 4 hot dogs, that's 8 carbs or almost 1/2 of your daily carb limit.

Post a typical menu of yours in the "Review My MEnu" section for the mods there to look at.

As for bringing something for work, chicken wings are pretty inexpensive if you make them yourself. If you purchase them ready cooked, they can contain many carbs depending on how they were made. You can also look into buying a rotissiere chicken found in many supermarket delis. In my area they are anywhere from $4.99 to $6.99 per chicken.

Ok first, how many veggies did you have at the buffet on Sunday? Did you count all those carbs?

Did you take measurements? If you are exercising the weight may not drop because A- your gaining muscle and or B- your muscles are not used to the exertion an are superhydrating, which will go away.

And there is no reason to hate this diet, there are tone of food choices. And I will comment that bologna, and hot dogs are not good ones. The contain fillers and hidden sugars, so be very careful with them. Burgers are my fallback, but there are so many more choices.

You're only on day four give your body a chance to adjust, the weight will drop, slower for some and faster for others but it WILL drop, look around at some of the people here who have had to be exruciatingly patient. Their patience paid off.

Are you drinking enough water? If not your body could be hoarding water, you need to drink to get rid of it (sounds backwards, I know).

Give this WOE and yourself a chance.

      Best of luck.
      Jim

          Hi,

Let yourself off the emotional meat hook and get back on a clean Induction.

          A few thoughts:

Diet coke has Aspartame a known weightloss staller - chocolate is absolutely not allowed and it's not cumulative meaning whether you ate a tiny piece or a pound of it it's still going to through your insulin levels off, make you crave more sweets and defeats the purpose of Induction 100%

Bologna and hot-dogs can be loaded with high crab fillers and sugar -- unless you're reading both the nutrition panel and list of ingredients and are positive that are completely carb and sugar free.

And you lost one pound? I think based on your consumption of the above mentioned foods, your loss of a pound is pretty amazing.

Do people lose weight on Induction? Yes, countless thousands, look around at the success stories on this board, it's mind boggling.

Get the book, please do yourself that one favor and if you have the book read it. If you knew and understood the principles of this WOL chances are these past mistakes could have all been avoided. Make no mistake without reading the book you will fail - guaranteed.

There's a quote in the new 2002 version of Dr Atkins New Diet Revelotion where he says "A single cheat is the kiss of failure" He changed it because I imagine how harsh it used to sound because his original quote was "A single cheat is the kiss of - death"

That said I really urge you to re-evaluate your commitemnt to make yourself healthier, stronger, wiser and of course thinner. And to finally really choose how badly you want it.

We are all sugar addicts, some of us recovered some in withdrawal. But just as no alcoholic can never justify one tiny little drink - no one on Induction can justify one tiny little cheat. Is that rigid, absolutley..is it hard? depends on how you look at it.

You can choose to make the mistakes over and over which pretty much promises you a life of fat and dying - of choose a life of improved health, better emotional and physical well being. I have all the hope in my heart that you'll choose the latter.

Atkins isn't a race or a contest it's a way of life that lasts, well, our lifetime. Don't measure it in pounds or inches - because the benefits far exceed either.

Now read the book, really read it and do a clean by the book Induction you have everything to gain and nothing whatsoever to lose - nothing. You'll continue to find an endless well of support and love on this board but no one...can do this for you.

So on that note please know this response to you isn't meant to sound harsh, you're presence is loved and appreciated here and none of us are perfect. So learn the principles of Atkins, embrace them, make the book your bible for the time being and this site your refuge for support and encouragement and you'll get there - you'll become the person you dream of being, the one under those 75 pounds you need to lose. But it won't happen without a 100% commitment to yourself to reap all the rewards this WOL has in store for you.

          Peter ha

I would wait to weigh until after the 14 days. I know my wightloss was slow to start and I think it was due to...lets say.. my bowels catching up. When my system regulated and I started using the bathroom more, the weightloss caught up. Sorry if it was too gross but I just dont want you to give up. Good luck and keep going!!!

                Hi Sexy!
Now I am in the adbb boot camp, and we had a guest speaker the other day betty. She did not lose a single pound on induction, but she stuck with it, and found even though she did not lose a pound she did lose inches. Any other person would have quit.. but she did not, and you should follow her example, and don't weigh yourself.. wait till the end of 2 weeks, and measure, measure, measure.. that little tape will tell you the truth more than the scale.

Hi! Congrats on your one pound loss, you should be proud of yourself! :joy :joy :joy :joy :joy
I agree with everyone else on this one. I tried Atkins for the first time last fall, I read the book, lurked like a stalker on this board....and still didn't follow the rules. I thought that I could still get away with eating the things I liked (diet soda) and still lose weight......I was OH SO wrong. At the end of my 14 day induction I had actually gained about a half a pound :yikes . I felt awesome, but was still heavier. This time around it's strictly by the book. I have only been on it one day and have lost three pounds. I thought I was being so good last time, but those artificial sweeteners really stalled me. You can do this, just give yourself a fighting chance! Hang in there!

Ahhh! I am so jealous! Three pounds in one day, that's great! Thank you guys so much for your help. I read the first book about 3 years ago, and I am now reading the new revised addition.

I don't know why I am having a hard time giving up diet coke. I never liked it that much before. For late lunch today I am going to make some chicken wings using butter and Frank's Red hot sauce. That should not hardly be any carbs in that, right? For dinner, I don't know yet.

I have been trying to make those cheese crisps I've been reading about using the microwave. The person said they used parchment paper to place them on, well, I could not find anything called parchement paper, so I bought wax paper. Well, it stuck to it, but the little bits I peeled off were great. I'll try it again because that would be a great snack for me.

I just put the cheese on the microwave glass turntable plate and slide them off with a spatula when crisp.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                          :wave Hi!

Just to chime in, I agree with what everyone, especially Peter has been saying. Also, look at this WOE as a lifestyle change and not how many pounds you can lose. Atkins improves your life so many ways other than weight loss. Yes, that's important but how do you feel thus far? Can you sleep better? Have you noticed any more energy? Things like that. Remember not to compare your weight loss to anyone else because we all lose different.

There is a story in the book about a woman who went on Atkins and lost so slow, she was losing like a pound a week and that never changed for her but she stayed on anyway and lost her weight in 2 years instead of faster like some people do. :yikes Can U imagine? 4 lbs a month? I myself, if I were her, would probably die or go crazy but she did it and it is do-able and worth not giving up. Like Peter says, its not a race. I have to make myself say that everyday because I want it off NOW! But this weight did not come on overnight and it certainly won't go off overnight. Just be patient, sweetie, and watch what you are eating.

If I were you, don't eat any hot dogs bologna and watch the cheese (3 oz allowed daily but CAN stall you if you eat too much in a week's time). Use your tape measure and stay away from the scale. Drink, drink, water until you are walking squishy (LOL), make sure you are exercising, make sure you are eating 3 meals a day or 6 small meals (skipping ANY meals cause stalling, too) and scrutinize everything you eat to avoid hidden carbs; no franky foods and read, read, read the book. The book is like my bible and I never, ever leave my house without it. It is in my purse or backpack everywhere I go. Good luck and let us know how it is going! :hug

Make a copy of the Acceptable Food List and eat only what is on the list for two solid weeks. Drink water ... give up the Diet Coke. And do some exercise. Then, at the end of the two weeks, see how you did.

Take not only a weight measurement but use the measuring tape, too. In doing so, you will have had the best control over your eating habits for two weeks and at the end of the two weeks, you can decide how it worked for you.

I'm not sure how long you've been overweight, but two weeks is a small amount of time in the scheme of things to get to know your body and understand what works and doesn't work before you panic and quit in frustration!

Best wishes to you ... you can do it and I know you can if I could!

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

How does skipping meals cause you not to lose? I know I'm not in ketosis because I remember it from a long time ago, and I don't feel that way, but I don't feel hungry like I used to, and believe it or not, I can look at sweets now and not be tempted!

My menu today was breakfast two fried pieces of bologna ( 1 carb each ) with swiss chees ( 0 carbs ). Lunch was a couple of pieces of italian pepperoni and made some chicken wings with butter and franks red hot sauce (yummy, can't even believe it's legal). Dinner I was not hungry and tried to fry a chicken wing rolled in egg, laury's seasoning salt, bbq pork rinds and parmesan cheese. I was suprised, it was very good.

I did eat a celery stick also with whipped cream cheese. I believe that is all.
That is sort of my typical day of food except when I work, then I usually eat 3 whole meals with a snack in between because I get so hungry when I work. I am definitely reading the book and love this website with all of your support. This will definitely carry me through even if I do only loose a pound a week.
