  • New to the boards and new to Atkins as well!

    Hi everyone -

Just wanted to introduce myself here as well. I will be starting the program tomorrow on Friday 3/11. I am so excited - this really seems to be such a supportive and very successful group.

I have no experience with the Atkin's program but have read the book several times. I have any and all past success with low-fat eating so I will have to get past eating more fat but I am really up for the challenge! I was laid-off from my job a few weeks ago and will be home for a little while so I want to use this time to my advantage. I will post my statistics tomorrow AM.

    Thanks so much!

    Patty

Hi Scorpio. Come right in and sit down and have some water with us. You'll be drinking LOTS and Lots of water, friend.
You sound so psyched about starting Atkins that you got me psyched too.
Get your fridge stocked up today so that you will be all ready for tomorrow. Make sure that you banish all the crappola stuff ( that you will not be allowed to eat ) to the garbage.
    Much success to you!

      Hi Patti! :wave

      Welcome to Atkins!

As long as you have the 2002 version of the book "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution" known around here as DANDR do a clean Induction and use the support system in place for you right here on this site you will succeed!

Atkins is unlike any other WOL (way of life) wonderful food, you'll go hungry, you can finally become the person you've always known you are but haven't seen in the mirror.

I'm so glad to know you have the book ~ treat it like your friend, you're personal Bible, use it, read it...read chapters that impress or fascinate you over and over.

I think it boils down to this, you already know what life is like feeling fat and unhealthy, you and I and the other folks here, we all know about body shame and low self esteem as a direct result to both our weight and our addictions to carbs and sugar.

The opportunity to reinvent yourself, and improve your physical and emotional health is right here and right now. You never have to go back to that slow death way of eating again - ever.

Tough out Induction and do the first two weeks as clean and as by the book as possible, don't sabotage yourself. This is a second chance really, much as it is for me and countless others - and second chances don't come around that often so grab onto this one and don't go!

You're not alone in this and most of all if you want it, if you want a life of feeling great and being thin - it's yours for the asking (well, as long as you stick to it)

So make like Nike and "Just Do It" and never forget, all the support and encouragement you need (and who doesn't? ) is right here on this board.

      Welcome!

      Peter ha

        Hi.

        Sorry about your job.

Anyhow, about eating more fat....I know what you mean. I was a low fat vegetarian (and vegan!) for a few years. So eating things like full-fat cheese, full-fat mayonnaise, eggs, and other things was alittle weird at first.

I remember my first Atkins grocery shopping day. I felt like the whole supermarket was staring at my cart with butter, cream, oil, cheese, a variety of meats, a few cartons of eggs and veggies. I was very self-conscious. But now, I'm not because I see my shopping cart of whole foods---meat, veggies and some fruits(I'm in the OWL phase)---and other people's filled with sugary cereals, instant potatoes, powdered mixes, etc. and I know what I'm putting in my body is a whole lot healthier than what they are putting in theirs.

Good luck to you. I encourage you to read the stickies at the top of this forum. And I encourage you to download that wallet-sized Foods List too.

LOL - I think if they were true successes, you wouldn't be here.

That being said, The Atkins Way of Life is the key to success, ha as it is a way of life - a permanent lifestyle change for the better! Best of luck to you & I know you can do it!!! :nod

welcome to the board and as the others said read and reread your DANDR don't try to take any short cuts cause there aren't any. Do the mandatory exercise part of your Atkins too and you will be a loser here too.

            happy low carbing.

                  Thank you all so much!

I am ready to get started today We are expecting 2 more snowstorms in the next few days (I am in the northeast - MA/NH border though I am a Chicago native thru and thru!) so I am heading out early shopping with my DD (she is 3 1/2) for some extras.

Have a great day everyone and thank you so much!

                    Hi Patty
I am (re)starting today also. I work at a hopital and yesterday and today was our annual "weigh-in". We pay $10 and if we lose 10 pounds in 10 weeks, we split the loot. I AM GOING TO BE A LOSER!
So today I started induction and plan to stay with NO CHEATS :nod for all 10 weeks. I really have more than 50 lbs to lose. And a couple other girls in the office weighed in too, so more motivation for me. :joy Plus I commited myself to 3 workouts and 2 weight trainings per week.

This is a great board. Lots of people with great answers to your Atkins questions.

Stay motivated, stay strong, stay tuned in. :yes
