If you are in ketosis and then eat a meal with alot of carbs, does it take a certain amount of days to get back into ketosis or only however long it takes to burn the carbs? Could you exercise them off and be good in hours instead of days?

But why would you eat a meal with a lot of carbs when you want to stay in ketosis?
Stay on plan and eat to the induction list of allowed foods and the answer to your question is irrelevant !!
To amswer your question - it will depend on how your indicidual body chemistry reacts - you may find you cant stop eating lots more carbs and you could wake up several weeks later a good few pounds heavier :yikesWondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Thank you for your response, however I still dont know the answer. If someone screws up and eats one meal of carbs and gets right back on track, do you have to wait days until ketosis kicks in?? Or will you go back into ketosis as soon as you have used up those carbs?luvthin

I am on Atkins for the second time. Did the first time in JUly-December 2003. I lost 40 pounds, then, after plateauing and changing to South Beach, lost another 25. Got stuck again and went to WW for the last 40 pounds, but haven't lost anything on WW (I think it's too much freedom)I've been stuck since Autumn, 2004, so I've decided to go back on Atkins. Started last Saturday strict induction. Finally went into Ketosis yesterday (THursday), test strip, dry mouth, etc. Scale has not dropped a pound in nearly a week. I'm glad to be in ketosis, but I'm a bit frustrated. Any suggestions? I'm being very strict (I tracking with FitDay ---which I love).

If I am only for myself, what am I?
If not now, when?

the answer to your question will depend on how many carbs you ate your metabolism and your energy output after the meal. you should be back in ketosis with in 8-24 hrs but you may not be albl to measure it on your sticks.by the book atkinseer

Re: ketosis question
My ketosticks hardly ever showed even a trace the whole time I was losing 140 pounds!!
The reading is affected by many factors including when in the day you use them, how much water you are drinking and your own metabolism. The sticks measure only one of several different kinds of ketones, so you may be in ketosis and not registering on the sticks.
How are you feeling? Any of the other signs of ketosis as described in this faq? http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6762Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: ketosis question
Hi Elizellen, first off, congrats to you on your weight loss.
I read those side effects already but I am experiencing none. I have no change in my breats or taste in mouth. Energy wise I am the same and I drink as much water as I did before.
I now it has only been 3 days but when I read other posts about how in 3-4 days the scale has changed or their stiks are showing purple it is hard not to feel discouraged.

Re: ketosis question
I agree that it can be discouraging when you see others post about phenomenal losses in the first few days.
I think this is one reason Dr Atkins suggested we only weighed ourselves at the start and end of our first 2 weeks on induction.
Depending how much weight you need to lose you might not see large losses - the average person should expect to lose 5%-10% of their hoped-for loss in the first 14 days.
According to your stats you have 25 pounds to lose and so a loss of between 1.25 and 2.5 pounds would be normal for you after 11 more days Any more than that will be a bonus.
Someone with 100 pounds to lose might see 5-10 pounds loss in that same time.
Try to be patient and carry on with induction 'by the book' for the two weeks and see how you feel and weigh then.
