  • Fluffy Girl is on day 6, and eating carbs

I have to have some carbs today. I am so fatigued it's ridiculous. I can barely stay up two hours straight anymore. My body is so tired and it needs some glycogen.

I am going to have a piece of fruit and maybe some oatmeal and then i'm getting right back on track but right now I need some carbs to keep me awake.

How do you guys do atkins for so long and have energy to function. Please tell me how because all I do is sleep.

I am no expert on this diet but my advice would be (or rather a question?!?!!!) are you drinking enough water?

You seem to be doing so well and have been really positive, would be a shame to give in now! You can do it!

Have you checked your blood sugar? That's how I feel when I when I get hypoglycemic, that and shakey. It ususally settles down for me after I've gone a couple of weeks with no cheats. But I had to actually drink a tad bit of oj on Monday morning before I could even drive to work because my blood sugar was at 68, and I didn't want to drive until I knew it was stable and not dropping any more.

it does sound like low blood sugar or induction flu, In a few days your body your body will adjust to the new way of eating and you will have more energy then ever. Just hang in there.

It may be your induction flue. Is that the first time during induction you felt like this? Induction flue is natural and you should not carb but rest and wait for it to pass.

OK, Guys I did eat carbs, I had oatmeal and I think it gave me some of the energy I needed. I am back on track and will stay off the scale or try to for a few days. I am still trying to be in a loose 14 by the end of the month.

I'M ALL GOOD NOW, Hopefully I can keep my energy up.

Post your typical Atkins Induction menu, including the amounts you are eating and drinking. Many times Newbies make the serious mistake of eating 0 carbs or as close to 0 carbs as possible.

More importantly, why are you sabotaging yourself? And why are you making excuses to sabotage yourself?

You do realise that the more you fall off the plan the more you set yourself back, don't you?

Re: Fluffy Girl is on day 6, and eating carbs

It wasn't an excuses to sabotage myself it was the fact that I couldn't keep my eyes open for more than 2 hours without dozing off which never happens when i'm eating carbs and I teach college so I can't be lecturing and falling asleep. I am glad I ate that oatmeal cause it seems to have given me energy.

I am not back on track and ready to keep going. If anyone has ideas on what to do when you have no energy please let me know i'd rather not eat the carbs I need some ideas for energy though.

I had one pack of kashi oatmeal and the rest of the day I was back to low carb.
Here is a typical menu for me.

Re: Fluffy Girl is on day 6, and eating carbs

How many eggs? How many turkey sausages? What is the weight of the chicken breast? Also how many carbs does the servings of edamame and the cheese stick have? I know that eggs have 1 carb each and 1 cup of salad has 2 net carbs and 1 cup of zucchini has 3.3 net carbs. I don't know how many carbs the cheese stick has, but I do know that 2tbsp of shredded mozzarella has 0.3 carbs. I don't know how many carbs are in the sf jello, but you might not be getting enough carbs.

Also as dumb as this may sound, have you had a physical with your doctor before starting Atkins. A lot of people will start a diet without a doctors o.k. and they run into problems because they may not know they have pre-existing conditions that may make doing Atkins more difficult. You don't have to tell your doctor you are doing Atkins right before you get your check up, but after you get your results back then you can tell your doctor you are thinking of controlling your intake of sweets, white breads, and white rice or "stripped" carbs.

If you have gotten tested and your doctor says you are fine then what you have may very well be induction flu, and not hypoglycemia. I'm thinking by how you are describing yourself that you feel you have low blood sugar. But unless you get an official diagnosis you won't really know if it is that or not.

How many carbs did your Kashi oatmeal have? I know a lot of times that instant oatmeal has many more carbs than regular slow cooking oatmeal. A cup of non instant oatmeal has just under 11 net carbs.

Look at your carb count. Especially when you had that oatmeal, add up the total carbs. It that total added up to 20, then you really need to eat more carbs. Try to eat the 20 net carbs.

You aren't hungry as well are you? Are you using fats to cook your food such as butter or olive oil?

I haven't had the induction flu so I really wish I could give you better advice.

Re: Fluffy Girl is on day 6, and eating carbs

BrightStar your right i'm eating way to few carbs. I really hate eggs and it's hard for me to eat them so I have been eating only 1 in the morning and I know that is no where not enough. I found this recipe where I mix the eggs with cream chese and bake it into something that looks and taste like bread it's delicious and it helps me get in more eggs.

The edamame has 2 carbs per 1/4 cup.
                        The susage has 4 carbs
                        The jello has no carbs

I did have a physical about 3 months ago and I am anemic actually my iron count is very low. It is a 9 when it should be a 22 so that and to few carbs is killing me. LOL. OK. Ok. I'm realizing now I really gotta make sure i'm getting those 20 carbs cause I didn't even realize it until you brought up the doctor.

                        Thanks for the response.

Have you read the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition?

Edamame or whole soybeans are not on the Induction Acceptable Foods list. In fact, soybeans are legumes and Dr. Atkins specifically said legumes are not allowed during Induction.

You aren't eating enough vegetables. Even if you were to count the edamame, you are only eating 1 cup of salad, 1/2 cup of edamame and you don't mention how much zucchini. During Induction, the book says to eat 3 cups of vegetables daily.

Please, please, please, read the book and do this diet properly.

Darnit, I thought because edamame had so many proteins I could have it. I do have the book and i'm going to look at it again because it looks like while I have been getting in few carbs and loosing a little weight I haven't really been doing Atkins at all. LOL.

Atkins isn't a high protein diet. It's a high fat diet. So, please re-read the book.
