  • Just my imagination?

Or does it seem like now that I've committed to this WOE (just ending day 6 of induction) that I'm offered more food/treats by coworkers than ever before. No one even knows that I've started following Atkins but this week at work every day some one is bringing in some junk to drive me over the edge. Cookies, donuts, candy every day this week. :anger

And then today, they had bbqs, potato salad, chips and such. They told me to fix a plate and I declined and just went back to working...next thing you know, someone went and fixed a plate for me and brought it to my desk! Ugh!! I threw it in the garbage when no one was looking! I don't even care that I'm not eating any of it because I'm not hungry, it's just that psychological aspect of not getting to do what everyone else is (and I know, I wouldn't jump off a bridge :nono ).

Thanks for listening to me I feel better having now.

    Hi.

Tell your coworkers that you are on a weight loss diet that requires you to eliminate refined grains and added sugars. So you have to eat veggies, non-breaded things, non-sauced things, etc. Saying you can't eat refined grains and added sugars sounds "healthier" than using the "A" word--because some people still believe the only thing on Atkins you can eat is bacon wrapped around a steak, wrapped around more bacon, covered in butter washed down with a big glass of bacon fat.

Tell them you're serious about losing weight because your doctor told you you had to! (Yeah, this might or might not be a white lie, but if you don't emphasize that you're doing it for a medical reason, they'll keep shoving carbs in your face just to sabotage your weight loss. From what I've read from other posters, some friends and coworkers will purposely sabotage weight loss if they think you are losing weight to fit into smaller clothes or other "vanity" purposes. Tell them it's a medical reason and they tend to back off.)

Finally, if they have a lunch pot luck, bring something in that's you can eat like a tossed green salad or meatballs.

Good luck to you. And congrats on dealing with the temptation successfully today.

:hug that is fantastic that you threw the food away!! (patting you on the back!) Maybe it is because you are low carbing, it seems that way, Before you probably would have eaten the foods and never given a thought to how often you indulged in it but now are keenly aware. Next time, tell a little white lie. Just say that thank you and you would hate to throw their food away but you can't have it because your hypoglycemic/diabetic/ etc. and that means you can't have sugar and have to be careful of your diet. Works like a charm! No more explaining, no muss, no fuss! But I am proud of you that you didn't succumb! :icondance

When my DH and I began this WOL over a year ago, we realized just how many food related commercials there were on television! Yes, there will always be "triggers" in our lives ... those people, places or things that try to convince us that a little bite won't hurt. So, have a plan and stick with it. Don't let others dictate what should be your decision on what to eat. If you were an alcoholic would they force you to drink? I agree that I don't always mention Atkins ... I just tell people I don't eat sugar our flour products and they seldom say another thing!

When you are alone in your head, you are in a bad neighborhood.

Thanks for the support and advice! I guess I am nervous to say anything because I have had people try to sabotage me before. I want this so bad that I can taste it, that is how I'm staying strong so far. :nod

I wasn't going to weigh until the 14 days was up but decided this morning to give myself something positive to think about. So I weighed this morning....I'm down 6# in 6 days :icondance :icondance

So I guess I will just keep throwing things in the garbage!!!! :dancingb:

            Congrats on the loss.

Like I said, tell them your doctor ordered you to lose weight or else. You can even tell them your doctor said you had to lose x pounds by x time. Then, what you do is bring a pair of tennis shoes and announce to them during lunch hour. "I'll be back in 20 minutes. My doctor put me on a walking program and I have to get at least 15 minutes in 3 times a day." Then take a walk (laps around the block, laps around the parking lot, if you have stairs in the building, walk up and down the stairs for a good aerobic exercise, etc.)

It'll give you time away from them (and other food temptations). It will also reinforce that you have to lose this weight. I'm sure if your boss requires you to have an exercise note from your doctor, your doctor will gladly write one for you.

Keep us informed of what little tricks you saboteurs pull on you. You've got the sneaky folks on ADBB fighting on your side.
