  • Help - I'm confused

I'm hoping you all can help me .... I'm a little confused about calories on Atkins. Do I need to count calories during induction phase? I'm on my 7th day of induction and I'm concern that I'm eating too many calories. I have a fear of the scale so I will not get on it until I go to the doctors next month. I can say I am feeling better ... but I'd like to know if I need to count calories. I greatly appreciate your input.

    P.S
I have approximately 90 to 100lbs to lose.

The book says that during induction you do not really need to worry about your fat and calorie intake, as long as you are eating no more than 20 net carbs a day. I'm sure someone can elaborate on this better than I can

You only need to track calories IF you think you are eating too much, or if you think you are eating too little. If your meals follow along the lines of the sample menu meals in the book, you are unlikely to be doing either.

If you want to count up your calories for a day or two to see if you are near your basic body needs, (basal metablolic rate) go ahead. A rough estimate would be all you need. You can get an idea of your BMR here.

Do a rough tally on your calories, if you are in the ballpark of your BMR give or take some, you are fine.

From what I can understand Carbs are the only thing you count during induction. After you move on up the rungs a bit then you will be replacing some of the fattier stuff naturally with more veggies so you won't have the calories to worry about all that much. Do you use fitday.com? It will help you keep a track of everything.
I have just started watching my cals a bit. But I don't kick myself too much if I go over my BMR BMR Calculator
because I am working out so much that I am burning about 700-800 calories a day according to the treadmill. And that doesn't count the other stuff I do during the day like weights and abs, and just normal activities.
I know I'm not much help.......sort of new at this myself..... but I hope I helped a bit.

        Good luck with your weighloss!

          Re: Help - I'm confused

Thank you soooooo much for your prompt response. I appreciate the link to find out my BMR. It is so difficult for me to diet without actually getting on the scale. But I am deathly afraid of the scale ... that's probably why my weight got so out of control. For the time being I will continue doing this without weighing myself. I will use my tape measure as an indicator that I'm losing weight. I hope that when I lose some weight I build enough courage to get on the darn thing. I read how many people here are obsessed with the scale ... and I am the complete opposite.

Thank you again for your help. I will be sure to continue reading everybody's post. They are such great help and awesome inspiration.
