  • Ketosis Question

    Hi there, well here I am on my 8th day of induction. I have been very good (cheat free) for 8 days now. I tested this morning for ketosis and I am negative, not even a trace . I dont understand I have not cheated. I've been very consistant with my meals. Somebody please help?? What am I doing wrong?

    Below is my menu.....

    I am no expert - I am sure the others will help you more...

    Are you sure your pork sausage has no sugar in it?

    And - are you losing? Do you feel better?

      Hi Lady Bethny,
      According to the ingredients on the package the pork sausage doesn't have any fillers. I'm not sure if I've lost weight (I dont weigh myself I'm deadly afraid of the scale) I am feeling better. But I'm just concerned that if I'm not in ketosis stage I won't lose weight.

        1. I wouldn't worry about the ketosticks because some people always register negative on them no matter what.

        2. Why are you only eating 1050 calories? A very rough estimate of daily calories is to add a 0 to your current weight. So a person weighing 105 pounds has a very roughly estimated daily caloric intake of 1050 calories. A person weighing in at 200, has a very roughly estimated daily caloric intake of 2000 calories.

        3. Other than the heavy cream, I don't see any added fats, like butter, olive oil, salad dressing, mayonnaise, etc.

        4. Why are you only eating 2.15 cups of veggies? I see 2 cups of lettuce and 0.15 cups of broccoli on your fitday. Broccoli is an "other vegetable" and you are allowed to eat 1 cup of the vegetables on the "other vegetable list" if you eat 2 cups of the vegetables on the "salad" list.

          I glanced at your other days menues....

          Are you following the book, Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2002 ed or are you following the Atkins website in terms of vegetables?

            Hi Not2late,

            Perhaps I will be one the few that do not ever register ketosis. As I mentioned before, since I don't weight myself I just wanted a little confirmation that I was in ketosis and burning fat.

            In response to the 1050 calories - I believe you were looking at today's menu. Thus far I've only entered breakfast and lunch meal. I'm generally eating about 1400-2200 calories.

            Regarding Fat - I incorporate butter, cooking oil and mayo into my diet. (I now realize how important this is)

            I am following DADR for my vegetables. Is this ok? Is there much variance from Atkins website to DADR vegetable table?

            One more thing - I also drink over 120oz of water a day.

              There's a big difference between the Atkins website and the book. I asked that question because I saw that on one day, you have 1 cup of cabbage and 1 cup of cauliflower---cauliflower and cabbage are both on the "other vegetables" list and are limited to 1 cup daily.

                Oops... you are absolutely correct. That was a terrible oversight on my part. Ouch! I hope it didn't throw me off. I will certainly pay more attention to my veggie consumption. thank you for pointing that out

                  Do you have any of the other signs of ketosis?

                  I am one of those who never saw any colour change on those pesky sticks, so dont worry too much about them
                  Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

                    Elizellen, I am so relieved to hear that somebody else didn't see a color change in the stick. And had amazing results such as yourself.

                    Yes, I do exhibit other signs of ketosis (dry mouth, diminished hunger, slight increase in energy) I also feel my mid section (stomach) is reducing.

                    I was very discouraged about the lack of color change on the stick. But your comment has really lifted my spirits .... thank you
