  • Help- not losing!? Why??????

I have been on the induction for 9 going on 10 days and NOT lost one pound, up 2 ounces today. I had very severe induction flu for about 5 days but I have been very strict about what I take in and not cheated. I've even been walking jogging this week. I am going through early menopause which is kickin my butt. Please has anyone experienced this? Is this just not going to work for me? HELP!!!!

Have you taken measurements and checked to see if you are losing "size" but just not weight? Also, what's your diet look like?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but hormones can absolutely be your problem. I had a hysterectomy a few years back and tried to lose weight last year to no avail. It wasn't until I started using a progesterone cream that my hormones levelled out and now, I am losing weight like nobody's business!

Is this to say that hormones are definately the problem? No. You still have a few days of Induction left and might not lose until the end. You may just be a slow loser. Is there a chance you're eating something that is holding you back? Post a menu for us to look at and see. Have you given up your caffeine? That tends to stall some folks. Is it close to your time of the month? ( I know it's hard to guage when menopausal) That could be the culprit.

Please stick with this, post a menu, and dig in with both heels. If you feel it's a hormonal issue, make an appointment with your doctor. Be sure to request a saliva test along with a blood test. My imbalance didn't show up in blood but I knew better.

      Don't give up!

THANK YOU for taking the time to reply.
My menu: Morning: I have one cup of half caf in the a.m with a tablespoon of cream 1/2 splenda. Atkins shake or low carb yogurt 3 net grams.

Lunch: 4-6 ounces steak or chicken with romaine 1 carb italian,, sometimes 1/2 avocado, 1 tablespoon feta.

Snack- 2 slices chedder cheese and/or atkins bar

Dinner: Same as lunch OR steamed broccoli and protein.

All day, sip on water 80 ounces at least and green tea (a bag for entire day).

DUring the induction flu I ate alot more cheese to try to feel better, very sick and weak, but not in the past 3 days. I am on a hormone ( light birth control pill) and I was hit hard this week with my period- break through, two weeks early. I made a doctors appt to discuss my hormones etc.

I am 5'9" weight 178.8. Goal 150 but at least 10-15 by Halloween/Thanksgiving. Any advise would be great.

Thanks Ty, I posted my menu. I'm not bloated as I was prior to the diet, so things don't feel AS tight, but I really don't think I have lost inches. Just started walking/jogging 3 days ago, cause I have been so sick with this diet.

Just a heads up from my own experiences...just consuming one atkins bar a couple of times a week was enough to stall my weight loss. The shake could be doing the same for you. I would be very cautious of anything branded "low carb." Sorry, that's probably just me being paranoid, but I've always said an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure...no wait, that was Benjamin Franklin...but he was right.

You are not doing a clean Atkins induction per DANDR 2002. Shakes, bars and yogurt is not on the allowed list so cut them out. Review the DANDR induction rules.

Try a different protein/fat rich breakfast - eggs are really good for you. Replace coffee with decaf - you need to avoid caffeine. Same for the green tea - do the decaffeinated variety. Use full fat cream to avoid the milk in half and half.

Make sure you eat enough fat. Around 60-65% of your daily calories should come from fat.

I agree hormones can be problematic. But stick with it. Do it right and be patient. Measure as well as weigh and you may get more good news.

                Re: Help- not losing!? Why??????

Okay, first things first: Ditch those bars and shakes! They are nothing but trouble and stall nearly everyone who uses them. They're filled with all kinds of cruddy crud. Induction is all about teaching yourself how to eat good, natural foods and those bars and shakes ain't it.

Second: Ditch the yogurt until OWL. There's more to induction than just staying within the 20 carb limit. The steps and rungs we follow are there for a reason.

Third: You really don't have much to lose and therefore, won't see a dramatic loss with Induction. The average Inducion loss is 10% of total loss needed.

Fourth: You are in the middle of TOM. He's a pain in the weight loss butt.

Fifth: You didn't mention how much of your veggies you were eating. You need to be sure to get in either 3 cups of salad veggies OR 2 cups of salad veggies with 1 cup of "other" veggies. Most of your carbs in Induction need to come from your veggies. Induction is pretty restrictive and you'll need all the nutrition from veggies you can get.

Sixth: When you said a "lot" of cheese, just how much did you mean? Remember to stay within your limits!

Give your body time to do a pure Induction and you won't be sorry. I hope this helps!

Ok, I don't like eggs, Can't eat seafood, I only like Steak and White meat chicken. I made the cauliflower soup- had that once this week. The options or lack thereof are making it where I won't last. I've had the yogurt once this week, breakfasts are killing me. I wake dizzy and weak, at least the shakes were something... Not trying to whine but desperate. I don't want to over do the cheese.

Is there anything you can make with eggs that make you like them? There are some good egg cream shake recipes around. They are pretty good and even people who do not like eggs seem to enjoy them. I would try it.
You have to be a bit creative - there are about a million different things you can do. Put your mind and will power to it. You really want this, right??? RIGHT!!!

                      Re: Help- not losing!? Why??????

Thanks- I will not have the shakes or bars again for a while. I am eating about 3 cups of veggies a day if not more ( lettuce everyday, spinach and broccoli, cauliflower are the others I may eat). I did not go beyond the 4 ounces of cheese within a day, just ate tiny bits throughout to try to help the nausea, etc. But the package was pre measured. The nausea has gone away thank goodness. Just really worried that my options are so limited I will crack.
Need more breakfast options- easy fast- NOT EGGS. Any suggestions?

Break away from the standard breakfast foods. Have something off the wall like a bunless cheeseburger for breakfast, or one of my favorites...grilled chicken breast with kosher salt and cracked pepper, with several kinds of full fat cheese on it. sometimes, I even add a bit of bacon. Yum.

Be creative, and realize that also, you could just do vegetables in different sorts of presentations for breakfast...I have been known to do grilled veggies, a chicken and baby spinach salad, or even something completely off the wall like pork rinds and ham (I call it "reconstructing the pig") with a side of bacon.

                        Ty.

I recommend that you try to take an Iodine supplement. Kelp 125mg twice a day, take it with food if you can as you should with any suppliment. Don't drink cold water or cold bevergaes with your meal. Drink room temp. liquids. Very cold drinks can slow down your digestive system. The iodine will help pep up a sluggish stomach. Don't eat after 6:00 PM. Try not to be idle after eating.

These are what I can offer and they work for me, good luck to you.

thank you thank you for your reply(s) and advice. I have much to think about... The past 9 days have been ****, so sick (exactly like when I was pregnant), so limited, and to not have lost anything and to feel now, that it was all a wasted effort. I have been consulting a friend who has had great success on this and thought that I was doing everything right, what I am doing, worked for her. So my disappointment right now is palpable. Thanks again for your time.

I am not trying to be funny, but are you sure your scale is woking correctly. If, you are following the program your body has to be consuming somethimng other then what you are eating. So, it seither muscle tissue or fat, either way there should be some weight loss to account for. Please don't throw in the towel just yet, take a step back and analize the situation. Tell us what you have been eating and drinking, hormones do play a big role but to follow the induction for 9 days and not lose anything is very unusual.
