    Re: Help- not losing!? Why??????

well in the past 8 days I have had 5 atkin bars (2 carb) and 4 shakes (2 crb) and 1 yogurt (3 carb). These were a no no. I have 1/2 cup coffee in the morning and one green tea bag a day. So, I guess these items could have prevented the weight loss, but it just seems so illogical to me that I wouldn't have lost anything. I have stayed in the 20 carb boundaries, being so careful otherwise. My girlfriend is doing the same thing- lost tons before and I inspired her to go back on the induction ( she was on the OWL) which she has done over the past 8 days (me 9 days) and she has lost 7 pounds (with the shakes and bars too). So I am baffled... I am going to cut out the shakes and bars. Don't know what else to do.

I know it's probably been said on here a million times. I know a lot of people react differently to certain foods. I just started eating the Atkins bars/shakes because they say they are safe for ALL phases. Still a no no?

I was too scared to get on the scale when I started induction LOL So I don't know if the bars and shakes are holding me back or not. I just finished induction on Monday but staying on extended. So I am going on inches until I feel better about the scale.

My girlfriend had them OCCASIONALLY and she lost alot on the induction so I did too. I don't know if they are safe- I am certainly NOT the expert. Do you think you have lost inches? Are you exercising at all?

Everyone is different. I just wanted something more convenient and small when I didn't have time to make eggs etc. I've done atkins in the past with great results. I tried this last time but ate low carb candy all the time and couldn't lose. So this time I am trying to do without all that.

I think I have lost inches. The pants I have on fit better so that's a plus! It's hard to tell because all the jeans I own are stretch type. So they are normal when I put em on and after about an hour they are falling off LOL I haven't done a lick of exercise although I plan to start.

When I do atkins, I pretty much stick to the same foods and never vary and thats when it worked so well. Also, maybe try the ketosis sticks. See if you are in ketosis?

Dang, the meat department is kind of rough there. You do have the book right? Only because you can have more than just salad greens. You could have cucumbers, mushrooms, peppers, radicchio, radishes, etc... if you like steak you could have steak with peppers or chicken with peppers. You can make a chicken meat loaf (not bad at all) with white meat ground meat.

I like eggs, so my menus have at least a meal with them. I wish I could give you more ideas with breakfast. I like bacon, unsalted hams, and unsalted sausages so I cook that as well. I do know that eggs scrambled in bacon fat with a 1/2 a tablespoon of shredded cheese tastes very good.

Oh as for your cheese, is it Imitation? That's not allowed on induction.

I know I am trying to do an experiment because I know red meat seems to stall me if I eat it a lot. I'm failing though because I really like red meat. So I think I'm going to have to try limiting it next week.

I'm going through EM myself, so I know it's hard to get rid of the weight! I'm down to 156, but I had been stuck at 158.5 for the longest before I moved down. Hang in there!

Ditto on what everyone said: Drop the franken foods (ex: atkins bars, shakes, etc.). They are baaaaad news for many of us. If you are waking up weak make yourself an omelete, an egg, left over steak--whatever will help get your morning started, but the franken foods have to go. Sorry, but it's the harsh reality of things.
Also, take into consideration that you're retaining water from exercise.
Stick with the true atkins (read the 2002 version of the book) and you will lose weight and or inches before you know it! Good Luck!

And I agree with what one of the people said--to be 5'9" and 170-180 lbs isn't that overweight...so your body will take a lot longer to lose, no matter what the diet. I know because I am 5'10" and when I weighed 175 lbs it took FOREVER to lose just 10 lbs, because I was at a good weight for my structure, athletic with a bit to loose. Now though, well, lets just say I have blimped enough to lose rather quickly. At least thats one good thing about being heavier!

khill: I'm not a big fan of nutrition bars or shakes, they have way to many chemicals and other hard to digest compounds. Shakes can also hide hidden junk. It doesn't sound like you have been eating enough. You might even be starving yourself.

What I suggest is to substitute the bars and shakes for real food. Eggs, ham, tuna, cheese, olives, butter, chicken and other stuff like that.

You have to be flexible while on this diet. I often eat leftover chicken and steak for breakfast or a thick slice of cheese or even a can of tuna or sardines. Hard boiled eggs are a great snack with a nice wedge of cheese and a diet soda.

I recommend you dump the bars and shakes and eat some real food, try it for a week and see if you start losing.

Also, no food after 6:00PM, no caffeine and limit the splenda

                  It can't hurt to try.

I know you are not keen on eggs, but can you handle quiche? Though made with eggs, cream and cheese usually you can add lots of meat and veggies to them so they are not so 'eggy'.

Yuo can even make them without cheese if you want to save that for snacks instead.

I often make a quiche using 3 eggs, 3 oz cheese, 3 fl oz cream plus whatever cooked meat and veg is in the fridge and slice it into 6 plieces for quick breakfasts or grab'n'go snacks. Sometimes I make them in muffin tins for individual portions.

They are tasty eaten hot or cold and are a great way of sneaking veggies in too!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
