  • My little helper...

I have found a tea called Bonkers- anyone else use it? It's an appetite supressing tea that has no carbs in it (or less than 1g in some flavors) and it's yummy and keeps my hunger under control (Am I crazy or do I not fill up the same way when I eat because I'm not eating any fillers??). I am just wondering if anyone else uses it or if anyone knew any reason not to use it?

I have also developed an appreciation for turkey burgers. red meat gives me heart burn (i sound like my grandmother! ) so i try to avoid it and stick to salmon, chicken and turkey.

Oh, I also picked up some Benefiber packets that you add to your bottles of water. i think they are 4g of carbs, 4g of fiber. If i remember induction correctly, I think I'll need fiber soon!

hm... I like turkey burgers too.

Never heard of your tea, but happy you have a 'helper.' But you shouldn't need an appetite suppressant... Atkins will do that naturally, once you are in ketosis, you may actually have to make yourself eat. Keep an eye on your sweetners, no more than 3 servings a day! (if you are using them in your tea.)

Save your money on the appetite suppressing tea. One of the side effects of ketosis/lipolysis is appetite suppression. So there is really no need to use/buy something to suppress your appetite.

If after 4-7 days on Atkins and your appetite isn't under control, then you have to do some things:

        1. Review your menu to make sure you really are eating only the foods and the amounts of foods listed on the Induction Acceptable Foods List. We follow the 2002 edition of the book, because atkins.com has changed the diet around after Dr. Atkins died to make it more "user friendly" by allowing foods Dr. Atkins said to avoid.

        2. Count your carbs. Sometimes newbies mess up and don't count them or ignore them.

        3. Make sure your diet is high fat. A common mistake is that people think Atkins is a high protein diet. It's not. It's a high fat diet. About 65% of your daily calories should be from fat. So if you are doing the "low fat" version of Atkins, you will probably have problems getting into ketosis/lipolysis because getting into ketosis depends on the fat to carb ratio in your diet.

Also, it's the fiber you eat (ie: the vegetables you eat) that help to fill you up during meals. And it's the fat you eat that keeps you full between meals.

        4. Make sure you are spreading your vegetable carbs carbs out throughout the day so as not to cause any blood sugar spikes.

        5. Don't overeat the protein because excess dietary protein is converted to sugar by your body, according to Dr. Atkins, and whatever sugar isn't used immediately for energy is eventually stored as body fat.

        6. Make sure you are drinking the appropriate amount of water. Dr. Atkins recommended we drink a minimum of 64 fluid ounces daily.

This is important because sometimes our brains misinterpret thirst for hunger. So if you feel hungry between meals, drink a glass of water and see what happens. If your hunger disappears after 20-30 minutes, then you were just thirsty. If it doesn't, then eat a small high fat snack.

Hmmm... Probably - it doesn't say caffeine free on this box and it does have green tea extract in it. i have never had an issue with caffeine while doing atkins in the past so i didn't even pay attention to it.
