  • One week--no loss?? What is up?

Hello---bummer...week ONE is today--NO LOSS....I did cheat Sat night with a half piece cheese cake and 4 glasses of wine but was VERY good the rest of the week with 30 less carbs per day.

I am "backed up"...no #2 since Saturday and I usually go daily with coffee/fiber bread. I did buy Colace today at the store. Last time I did the protein diet (8 years ago) it worked well--just dont remember how LONG I was on it before it worked.

ONE day of cheating at night (party) could have messed up my whole week? Feeling discouraged. I thoughtI dropped two lbs. a few days in but it is now back. The good news is I am eating as I wish and did not GAIN.

    Sample day:

    breakfast

1/2 cup cottage cheese (6 carbs)
Coffee two tbs powerder creamer (2 carbs)

    lunch

salad total of (5 carbs)--chilcken, carb free dressing of some sort, bit of green pepper.....flax seed (4 carbs).......9 carb lunch

    Or maybe just some chicken.....left overs...etc. MEAT....cheese....

    SNACK--
    lunch meet/cheeses....hard boiled egg....zero carbs

    Dinner--same idea
Chicken, shrimp, beef.....maybe 8 carbs??? 1/2 cup Green beans.... broccil...lets say 6 carbs....

I am not getting a lot of veggies becasue I am "afraid" I will overdue my carbs. But am getting in some. I also just bought Colace and am trying to use Flax seed when I can.

???? Is it just that I am backed up? Again, my stool habits have changed a lot in the past week. I did buy Colace and will try taking two a day or so until I figure out what is up. I also started WALKING---maybe 2 miles 4x a week....that is a good start...so what is up?

I sware when I did this before--it was like 4 months...I dropped 15lbs....went from about 145 to 130 lbs. BUT was running about 4 miles 4x a week...maybe I need to exercise more??? I am just so out of shape!! Walking brisk is my start...up hills (hilly neighborhood)...

    THANKS!!!!!!!!!

What Atkins book are you following because cottage cheese has not allowed on Induction phase since 1992?

Also Atkins is a high fat diet, not a high protein diet. And why is the shrimp, chicken and beef using up 8 carbs?

Re: One week--no loss?? What is up?

      Hello!

Um...lets see. I have the "PROTEIN POWER" book (red and white) I am using --thought it was the ATKINS book--cant return to store since highlighted before I figured out it was the WRONG diet book. This is what I get rush shopping with a crying 2 year old. So I am using it to help and reading info on the boards...printed charts posted here etc.

Cottage cheese has 6 grams of carbs per half cup. (2%)--12 protein. Why is this a nono if I stay with in the 3-4 cheeses a day?

Shrimp/chick/beef dinner ---- sometimes I add flavorings at times --they have a few carbs in them (dressing, sauces etc)....try to make sure sugar is not high in the flavorings...may use Italian dressing for instance....to marinade.

I did see the "approved list" for foods posted for induction. I am following it mostly but did add Cottage Cheese. Can 1/2 cup cottage cheese a day spoil the Atkins? Seems strange.

        ps--TONS of water.....

I am getting lots of fats---saussage (w/out hidden carbs), fatty beef....etc. I do try to get in shrimps /chicken but ate dark meat chicken....plenty of fats....and more protein than I would normally ( I may get 20 protein on a normal day)--well, well above that.

Cottage Cheese, 4 glasses of wine, cheesecake, cold cuts (unless no additives) can have a cummulative effect on weight loss. Worry less about going over your carbs with veggies and follow the Atkins plan as written. For me, my well worn and read DANDR, 2002, had all the answers for successful weight loss.

Re: One week--no loss?? What is up?

Trying to get copy now of the correct book--asking around......NOMALLY I would not have the four glasses of wine and the cake. I was hosting a party....set a limit of two glasses of SMALL wine....after two---and the party atmosphere---turned into two more small glasses (4 oz---measured) and the cheese cake!!! It was bad. I dont even have a sweet tooth!!! Again, I know that was bad. For the official record--it was HALF a piece of cheese cake! The wine made me do it!

I have to ditch the cottage cheese. NO PROBLEM!!! To be honest, I dont even LIKE it! I thought I was doing something good!!

I will find a copy of the book....my mistake getting the wrong book and trying to "wing it".....ug!!!!

            Thanks!

Re: One week--no loss?? What is up?

Until you have the book, take a look at some of the threads in the Atkins FAQ forum especially the ones about the rules of induction and list of induction-legal foods to get you working in the right direction.
Atkins Low Carb Dieting - FAQ's - Atkins Diet

Though they don't go into the theory of how it works so are not a substitute for the book, they will get you started.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

Re: One week--no loss?? What is up?

I don't know exactly what Atkins you are thinking your following. You should read the book because it doesn't seem like you have. On Induction your suppose to get 15-20 carbs per day... 3 cups of veggies no matter what! It sounds to me like you are doing what you think is Atkins and not what Atkins really is. Try something like fitday where you can keep track of everything your eating. By the way your hardboiled egg DOES have carbs .6 to be exact. You should count everything even if it has less than one gram of carbs because they can add up. I would try doing Atkins the right way and definitely purchase the book. Cottage cheese is definitely not allowed until the dairy rung. And You said you did cheat and even though you may have been what you thought is "good" afterwards... it had only been a week . After you cheat you gain water weight , etc. So my suggestion is take everyones input and start over the right way. Good luck
