  • Scared to death!!

I’ve switched from a low fat, low calorie diet to the Atkins diet and I’m horrified to weigh myself. I started induction on Sunday and haven’t had any problems or cravings, but I’m worried that eating all of this fat will make me gain weight. I’ve read the book and the book states that I will see results but I keep reading posts about how people can’t stay off of the scale to see how much weight they have lost, and here I am afraid to see what I’ve done to myself. That little voice in my head keeps telling me that the only way to go is low fat, low-calorie and Atkins is going to be a huge mistake. Has anyone else transitioned from a low fat, low calorie diet to Atkins, and if so did you worry about gaining weight?

I hear ya--I think the protein curbs your hunger so much...you end up eating less....and lose weight. I was worried also--no idea how this works (did it 8 years ago with success--was close to desired weight when started (only wanted to drop 7 at most...).... but still worked back when....

I had to "FORCE" myself to eat and I am a HUGE ITALIAN eater! I remember it beeing NOON and I ate all but nothing and was not wanting to eat! I would drive though MD's and get a burger and eat the meat/cheese and still lose weight!!!

    Must be strict--no cheating!

I tried the diet 3 other times and failed all times (fell off rocker too many times).....I am trying again...strick so far--one week in!

has changed since I did the program/diet 8 years ago so still "learning"....

    GOOD LUCK!

Thankfully, I'm not having a problem with carb or sugar cravings as I have kicked my habit long ago. The only thing that I am eating right now that could be considered cheating is two pieces of sugarless gum. I have one in the morning and one after dinner. I'm tempted to have decaf coffee-black, but i'm so paranoid about gaining weight that I'm afraid to coffee at all. I'm actually thinking about giving up my chewing gum!

        Re: Scared to death!!

Before I started Atkins (started about 4 months ago) I was on a low fat/low calorie diet (it didn't work I would always cheat because my cravins were there on the low cal diet). When I started Atkins day 14 of induction I had lost 13 pounds. So definitely the transition from low cal/low fat to Atkins did nothing but help me get on the right track! So, you shouldn't be worried... if the end of the 14 days your only down a couple of pounds just keep on going and don't get discouraged as long as you are following Atkins the way its meant to be you will be fine Also, make sure you are excercising this plays a HUGE role in Atkins as well. Good Luck and don't give up you will be fine
