Hi all! Where can I buy psyllium husks and/or flaxseed meal? Grocery store or pharmacy? Are they a powder or a liquid? Thanks!!
Kristen
Psyllium husks are typically found in the pharmacy--specifically in the laxative section. Metamucil is psyllium husk. If you buy Metamucil, get the sugar-free kind. There are non-sugared psyllium husk available too. Again, they will be in the vicinity of the Metamucil. According to the book, psyllium husks were Dr. Atkins' "fiber of choice"
Flaxseed meal is typically found in the natural foods section of a supermarket or in health food stores. Flaxseed meal should be stored refrigerated because the high oil content can make the meal go rancid.
The amounts for them can be found in the sticky thread about Flax Amounts, in this forum.

At places like Whole Foods or Central Market, you can also find Psyllium Husks (no sugar or artificial sweeteners) in the bulk section... usually in the canisters rather than the giant bins for rice and beans.
Also much much cheaper than at the pharmacy.
