  • why no nuts?

i just started the diet up a few days ago and i was reading the handbook and i think it said no nuts, and i was wondering if someone can tell me why? doesnt a cup of almonds have like 2 net carbs? what makes them so bad? and if we can eat them, can someone tell me what kinds of nuts? i kinda wanna make a trail mix, if im allowed.

Nuts are relatively high in carbs. Maybe a tiny portion, 10 almonds might have 2 net carbs but certainly not a cup. Also nuts are a food which frequently cause food senisitivities or carb cravings. That is why you are not to allow nuts back into your diet until much further down the road than induction. It is best to follow this diet by the book. Dr. Atkins worked with thousands of patients and this is the way his diet worked the best. I usually advise reading the book before you begin, but it is never too late!
    Good luck!

      1. Because Dr. Atkins said not to. As another moderator recently wrote, Dr. Atkins spend over 30 years developing his diet by observing thousands of his patients. What we have in the 2002 ed. is the end result of those years of his experience with his diet and his patients. In other words, before tweaking his diet around, take that into consideration.

      2. Because nuts and seeds are one of more problematic food groups. As one of the OWL Forum moderators, I can tell you that nuts and seeds cause weight loss problems in many folks due to food intolerances and/or allergies. In fact, nuts/seeds is one of the 6 leading causes of food intolerances/allergies in the world. Read Chapter 25 in the book about food intolerances, Dr. Atkins wrote that sometimes the foods we love are the foods that are the worst for our bodies.

You guys stopped me just in time- I almost jumped by husband for a hand full of cashews. I need something salty to eat after my jello fix. Any suggestions?

            A pickle?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

get some sliced pepperoni (make sure they are low in carbs as some are not) sprinkle some cheese on them and them put in oven on low temp untill dry and crispy. YUM!! (and salty) Remember too much salt for some people also slows weight loss as it makes your body retain water. But you still lose fat. Use body fat measuring scales rather than weight loss scales.
