  • Excuse for not drinking

    Hi everyone,

Just recently joined your wonderful site and tried to start my clean induction for the last few week but always fall of the wagon on weekends! The reason usually the alcohol! I have just started my Clean Induction few days ago and doing great, but its my friends birthday this weekend and she is having a house party, all our friends naturally will be boozing and I don't want to screw my diet again.

So what would be a good excuse for not drinking? I just don't want to tell that I'm on diet.

    Thanks a mill,

How about not telling them you are not drinking? Have some seltzer with lemon in it and be as merry and into it as you would normal be.

ummm... I don't understand needing to have an "excuse" for not doing something, but from what I hear, hangovers are horrific, so I feel like I would definitely blame activities from the previous night. Or that you almost went to the hospital with alcohol poisoning 3 weeks ago and alcohol still hasn't tasted the same...

          Re: Excuse for not drinking

Why would they ask you why you aren't drinking? I have never understood the "need" for people to drink for every occasion under the sun.
If you don't eat the exact same foods they do will they ask you why not? If you don't drive the same car?
If they have to ask just say you don't want to! Period.

My friends would ask me why I'm not eating the same foods, and have asked me about the car thing at times. People are curious little monkeys. Especially friends who want to make sure that we're okay and enjoying ourselves and stuff.

              Thanks for good ideas people,

I guess after some time they will get used to the idea that I'm not drinking anymore and stop asking questions, which make me feel like an outsider with 'creepy' healthy habits...lol

                You are the designated driver.

Your doctor has told you to lay off the booze for health reasons.

You've grown up and don't feel like getting drunk means having a good time anymore.

                    Re: Excuse for not drinking

I don't know how old you are, but you could tell them that as you age, you are not metabolizing alcohol like you used to, and have decided to refrain. This actually does happen to a lot of people, and they can't tolerate as much alcohol as they did when they were younger. Some people find they can't tolerate any.You could tell them you have developed allergies (I actually HAVE developed allergies to certain types).Just make sure if you use either of these, you don't care to drink with this crowd again.

I tell people "I'm in training." Haven't had anyone ask what I'm in training for yet

It would be nice if you could just say "No thanks." But I do know there are occasions when people won't take a simple no for an answer. Personally, I will use excuses for a single occasion, but if friends start pressuring me routinely, I either arrange to see them during events when they are not drinking, or find new friends.

Our neighbor brought us over sugar free jello shots for Halloween (the candy for adults they were giving out). We thanked him but didn't eat them in front of him. When we went back inside, we tossed them out. He knows we don't drink but he must have forgot
