  • I can't believe it!

My bf works the evening shift, so through most of the week we don't see each other much. We always plan to go out to dinner Saturdays and Sundays. I usually start thinking about where I want to go binge on Thursday or Friday. NOT THIS WEEK!! I am so over this obsession with food that I'm absolutely awestruck. I actually keep forgetting to eat. When I finaly remember, I usually am not hungry...it's CRAZY!! And.........
Today we went to Old Country Buffet, the epitome of cheap, carb laden establishments. Usually we are just one of the herd piling our plates with nothing but mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. Since we are both doing this WOE, we ate only induction friendly foods...........and boy did it SUCK. I didn't realize the food was so terribly tasteless and poorly made until I started this WOE. I guess it's all about quantity Vs. quality at the good ol' buffet. We made a pact right then and there to only eat at home or in finer establishments. I still feel ill from the peice of chicken I ate there....uhg.

My family went to a buffet last night for dinner as well, but fortunately this one has lots of Atkin friendly foods. I had a slice of roast beef, rotisserie chicken, salad, and steamed cabbage. Stayed away from the dessert bar. But they did have lots of bad food there also.

Good for you for sticking to your Atkins. Overcoming all of these challenges is gonna make you successful for life! And I agree, we eat pretty darn well on this woe. Fresh, whole foods. Sometimes it's just hard to get at many restaurants.

        Golden Corral

Since I live alone, I like to go to Golden Corral and get a carry-out order. I go on Monday, and get a variety of meats: chicken, pork chops, roast beef, steak with mushrooms and peppers. I get the steak medium rare and save it for the second or third night when I put it on my George Forman grill with the mushrooms and peppers and cook it to medium well, which is how I like it. That with the salad fixins' I keep on hand do me for dinner several nights for about what it would cost me to buy the groceries, and I don't have to face cooking after work. I sometimes do this twice a week.

I grew up appreciating left overs and I am the epitome of lazy. :yummy

It is so wonderful to have the power to resist frankenfoods

I love home buffet - I go there once a week, not for the meat, but the fish. It does wonders for my former "I feel deprived" mentality. I also like the feeling of being able to eat in a buffet - but I don't touch anything but the meat, the fish, the eggs if they have them, and acceptable veggies. Of course by the time I've eaten all my acceptable foods I have no room left to even be tempted by anything else. I find it empowering that I can stay away from my former frankenfoods. They no longer interest me in the slightest. I especially like seafood night, I get shrimp and halibut and salmon and cod all at the same meal. I just make sure to remove any breading on the shrimp.

i remember how I used to feel after a buffet - so stuffed and miserable. now i can stop eating when i'm full. now the word "buffet" has no effect on me other than providing me with amusement.

congratulations on your willingness to change your lifestyle. i'm sure you
will suceeed on atkins. sorry your experience at the buffet was an unpleasant experience for you, but isn't it great to notice how much
          you can change?

            Good for you!

It feels GREAT when you get to the point where you realize YOU are in control of the food, not the food controlling you, doesn't it?

            Keep up the good work.

Now's the time to expand your taste buds and look around for other restaurants that are friendlier to this WOE. Call ahead to see what's on their menues so you'll avoid any guess work. You can tell them that you have special dietary needs (you're Low Carb) and see if they have anything for you.

            Go get 'em!
