  • Sesame seeds?

I got the book yesterday, and I read that Dr. Atkins says that nuts and seeds are ok on OWL (I feel like Harry Potter here) but not during induction. However, on page 133 in his Sample Daily Menu - Dinner, he suggests
Kale topped with garlic, lemon and sesame seeds.
I love sesame seeds, and I need to know how many carbs are in a serving, and how big a serving is.

Yesterday, I tried the microwave flax cookie/cracker recipes (http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...pic.php?t=6945) and YUM! :yummy I would eat these even without dieting. I expecillay liked the cookies made with cinnamon and Splenda. Wouldn't they be sinful with sesame seeds in them too? Would that be allowed? :confused

According to Fitday, one-quarter cup of sesame seeds has 3 net carbs (after deducting fiber). They've got 18 grams of fat, 9 of protein and are high in potasium, iron, zinc and magnesium! They are low in saturated fat, and about equal in polysaturated and monosatured fats. I don't see why you couldn't add a tablespoon or two to your salads. I'd use them in moderation (as with all nuts), but they do look OK to me.

That's just my opinion, of course!

No seeds or nuts during the first 2 weeks of Induction according to Induction Rule #4.

The menus given in the book are tricky because it doesn't take the rules totally into account and at times they have a "this one little bite won't hurt me attitude"--which Dr. ATkins warned us against in Rule #5. lol

Hold off on the seeds/nuts until OWL or your extended Induction if you wish to pursue that route.

The flax itself is a seed. If you follow the recipe and use only 1 tablespoon of the flax and eat only 1 serving of it a day, you are within your "legal" fiber supplementation limits (Chapter .

as you have discovered (and BTW congrats on reading your book) the book was a cut and paste of his olderbook and some of the recipes dohave ingredients form the old rule 5 which said we could select our own 20 grams ofcarbs using a carbcounter book.

In 2002 Dr Atkins based on the results and problems many ofhis 40,000 patients using the program and folks contacting him doing the plan on their own changed the rules so many more folk would be successful. He changed rule 5 and now we eat nothing not on the acceptable foods lists not even one bite and we use splenda instead of aspartame.

You need your weight loss number from the 14 days to assit you in determing ing your CCL and your metabolic resistance levels so please don't be one of thsoe folk that just decides will I will creat the new and improved Atkins and alter it just a bit. As Dr Atkins said in his last TV interview it is just 14 days and you got the rest of your life afterwards.

FFOllow the chapter 11 induction and ignore chapter 18 induction as you can see the editing job was the pits for that book.

Happy low carbing. Can't wait to see your day 15 yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I lost post!
