  • Veggies during the induction

I understand that the idea during the induction is to keep my carb intake below 20g. Factoring in cheese, meat and eggs this is easy. I know that fruit is out during the induction and some veggies are better than others.

Here are a list of veggies I really like, can you guys tell me which one are best for me to be having in moderation during the induction?....

    - Bell peppers (does colour matter?)
    - Mushrooms
    - Broccoli
    - Onions
    - Cauliflower
    - Carrots

Are any of these really bad? Which alternative low carb options would you recommend?

There is a good list of what you can eat and not eat right here:

As you can see there are some vegetables you can eat 2 or 3 cups of and another than you have to use only 1 cup from.

Carrots are out - they are too starchy
Onions are fine but be a little bit careful as they are carby (Onions are my favourite vegetable)

Excellent. I played it safe on day one and just had a small amount of mushrooms and a red pepper.

Can you tell me what a "cup" is. I read somewhere it is like the size of a baseball - is this right?

Yes, it's like the size of a baseball.

Um.. I've never played cricket - it always rains or I'm busy in meetings when I'm in Europe.

Yeah it does tend to rain a lot here. I hear it is a lot sunnier in never never land!

Also can someone tell me if herbal teas are recommended during induction? The boxes never seem to have any contents labels on them but I know the brand I chose is caffeine free and does not contain any sweetners. It is green tea and lemon flavoured.

                Re: Veggies during the induction

You can have herbal tea, non caffeinated, without sugar. If you add anything (splenda and heavy cream), they need to be counted towards your daily allowances.

Right oh, I'm staying away from all that. Will stick to lots of water and the occasional herbal tea if I get bored!

                    Hi Daz
If you prefer to weigh your veggies rather than get the cup measures used in USA (they are sold in most large supermarkets as well as most cooking shops) there is a thread at the top of this forum that one of our members compiled showing how many grams a cup and fractions of a cup there are for most veggies on the induction list.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
