  • True help needed with Induction foods

First off let me say I am ADD. Have been all my life so it is near impossible for someone like me to sit down and read a book. I only need help with what I am eating and if it is right. I know 90% of Atkins rules, just need refreshing. If your going to reply with "read the book" I kindly ask you don't respond to this thread. It is of no help to me. Here is what I have been eating for the last 5 days.

Break--- 2 scrambled eggs...No Oil... blah...I use the leftover bacon grease...Much tastier

    3-4 pieces of reg. bacon

Water and on occasion coffee with splenda

Lunch--- Salad..Lettuce,cheese,bacon bits and Ranch dressing. And sometimes a meat.
    Water

Dinner...Meat, hamburger, pork chop, ham and a salad as above with water.

    No snacks...NONE.

I have lost 4 1/2 pounds in 5 days. I think I am doing good with NO CARBS or at least I haven't noticed any carbs on my labels and no sugar..

I recently found out I can have broccoli,cauliflower,tomatos...How much of these can I have and how often... Oh and can I have sausage links? It says no carbs and no sugar...
Thanks so much in advance for your help.

Hello! I also suffer the effects of ADD, and know the difficulty of sitting and reading. If you can't read the book, check out the stickys at the top of the forum, there is an acceptable food list there that you can print out and keep with you. I have found that this diet helps EMMENSELY to control a lot of my ADD symptoms, just something to think about. Have you ever tried Straterra? Worked wonders for me! Good luck!

      Butter have it

Just curious - why aren't you cooking your eggs in butter?
Having a high fat content is a key to your success.

If you are attempting to follow induction the salad portion
needs to be monitored carefully. Salad at both meals may
      be too much.

      Vegetables
You can have two to three cups per day of:

      alfalfa sprouts
      daikon
      mushrooms
      arugula
      endive
      parsley
      bok choy
      escarole
      peppers
      celery
      fennel
      radicchio
      chicory
      jicama
      radishes
      chives
      lettuce
      romaine lettuce
      cucumber
      mâche
      sorrel

These salad vegetables are high in phytonutrients and provide a good source of fiber.

      Other Vegetables
You can have one cup per day of these veggies if salad does not exceed two cups. The following vegetables are slightly higher in carbohydrate content than the salad vegetables:

      artichoke
      celery root
      pumpkin
      artichoke hearts
      rhubarb
      asparagus
      chard
      sauerkraut
      bamboo shoots
      collard greens
      scallions
      dandelion
      snow peas
      bean sprouts
      dandelion greens
      spaghetti squash
      beet greens
      eggplant
      spinach
      broccoli
      hearts of palm
      string or wax beans
      broccoli rabe
      kale
      summer squash
      brussels
      kohlrabi
      tomato
      bean sprouts
      leeks
      turnips
      cabbage
      okra
      water chestnuts
      cauliflower
      onion
      zucchini

If a vegetable, such as spinach or tomato, cooks down significantly, it must be measured raw so as not to underestimate its carb count.

Meats can be eaten liberally - eat enough sausage to feel full.

I would suggest that you avoid the scale and wait to weigh until at least two weeks have passed. This isn't a diet. It is a forever. Good luck to you on your Atkins Journey.

oh you have been eating carbs letuce eggs cheese all have carbs in them anything from a planhas carbs in it. Atkins isn't zero carbs and even though you don't want to hear it you really need to read the book and espeically chapter 11 all about induction so you know what you can and can't eat. Other things like spreading the carbs out to every meal so you don't spike your bolood sugar is inthe chapter on carbohydrates not the induction chapters but many folk don''t want to take the time to learn about Atkins other then for their immiediate current need.
Those are the folk who will struggle with their atkins because they don't understand that Atkins is calorie control through carbohydrate control and all the things they need to do to be a successful Atkineer because the details are spread out all theough out the book. Take the time to read it even if you only do one chapter at a time. Hewck you can join the read the book challenge as we are only on chapter 4 and learn as you go.

I recommend using fitday to track your eating. You will be able to see where all your carbs are coming from as well as make sure your fat/protien/carb ratios are all in line.

My strongest advice, since reading the book isn't an option, is to go to your local public library and see if they have the audio book ATKINS ESSENTIALS. It will give you a good list of foods you can eat, as well as the quantitites. It will also give you good basics on the how's and why's of this WOE. "Knowledge is power" is definitely true when it comes to this WOE, and I hate to see you be cheated out of doing things correctly. Audio books would be the answer!

              Thank you

Tabekat...I don't need the extra fat. I eat enough...LOL. I use bacon grease for my eggs.. Also, thanks so much for the list of foods. And thanks for the info on sausage...just had 5 links. My keytone strip this morning was the darkest it could be. Guess that is good news. lost another pounds since yesterday and wondering if it really IS THIS EASY. I have no cravings and no hunger pains. I really could do this for the rest of my life. TY

You're not going to like my response here.

I have ADD, have had it since I was a child. I'm also dyslexic. I found the time to sit and read the book in small chunks because it is important to me that I make Atkins work. I've read it several times. You can get good advice here, but it's meaningless unless you read DANDR.

And since you can find the time to sit and read ADBB, you can read the book. Read it in fits and starts, that's fine, but read it.

ADD is only an excuse if you let it run your life and keep you from being all that you have inside.

Just a thought about sausages - you do need to check how many carbs are in the ones you eat as many have fillers which do have carbs. I dont know what it is like in USA but in UK many sausages have 3 or 4 carbs EACH :yikes
So read the info on the packets before you buy if possible

If your keytone strips are really dark it could be you are not drinking enough water. (You should be drinking 64 ounces plus 8 ounces for every 25 pounds you want to lose as a minimum btw)

Actually many of us never see them change colour at all but we know we are in ketosis because we have the other signs of it. There is a (short) thread about this here http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ic.php?t=68113 you might find interesting.

As to 'is it this easy?' many of us find if we follow the rules and eat only what is on the list of acceptable foods it really IS :yikes

Congratulations on getting back to this woe - we look forward to sharing your journey to weightloss and better health :hug
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I am in the process of reading Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution book and there are things that i'm constantly learning about this WOL. I strongly suggest you reading the book for the maximum benefits from this WOL. The advise given here are mostly from people that have been on the plan awhile and have seen the success from following the plan. I strongly suggest reading the book for maximum weight loss/health benefits. Good luck to you.
