  • Induction Day 7 + Question

    Hey everyone, I started Induction a week ago and meant to post here then, except used up my internet cap and so browsing wasn't possible. I'd been reading this site for a little while before that though, and it's been very helpful.

    Anyway, I started at 214 pounds (I'm a 19 year old male, 1.79cm) and my target weight at the moment is 170 pounds. Lost a bit over 8 pounds in the first week, so I'm very happy with that result!

    However, my birthday is coming up this Sunday and although I'd very much like to avoid cake of any variety, I was just wondering what would be the physical consequences if I succumbed and had a slice?

    Happy Early Birthday! Congrats for loosing 8 lbs.. that is great!

    I am going to say that most would say.. no. But I am a bit different. I tend to have planned cheat days. I knew I was cheating at thanksgiving and wont cheat again until christmas eve dinner. Then I will be back on plan until valentines.

    I personally would say that if you are planning to stay on plan the entire day other than a slice of cake for your birthday then go for it. I have not had too much of a problem if I go off plan for one meal or one item as long as I get right back on the wagon after. Some people will say that after eating off plan they feel different or their stomachs hurt but I have not felt this way. Some will say it is harder for them to get back on plan once they cheat.

    I think it is a personal choice of yours to do this or not. You may gain a lb or 2 or you may not gain anything. It all depends on how long of a cheat you do and how much you eat. If you do gain.. just know it may be water weight and should come off pretty easy if you get back on plan.

    Why not go out to the cheese cake factory and have a slice of low carb cheese cake? It would be low carb and the closest thing to cake while staying on plan.

      Cheating is not a good idea. Reason one it will kick you right out of ketosis. If that happens the best thing to do is start over with induction. Reason two is that cheating can be a very slippery slope. It is probably the biggest reason people fail on this WOE or any eating plan. If you have incredible will power, which I kind of doubt or else you wouldn't be in the same boat as the rest of us here, I would avoid the cake thing all together.
      My first time on Atkins about 5 years ago my friend made me a platter of cheese cubes, nuts and celery with blue cheese and arranged it in a circle and put candles into the cheese cubes. It was very sweet of her and it worked. I did not feel deprived of not having a piece of 'real' cake.

        It's *your* birthday, so why not ask whoever you'll be celebrating with to avoid cake altogether? Whip up a batch of crust-less cheesecake or something else from the dessert recipe forum: Desserts - Atkins Diet

        The motto around here for most people is "Planning to cheat is planning to fail." That being said, if you fall off the wagon for one slice of cake it won't be the end of the world and you should most definitely climb back on board.
