  • Mayonnaise and butter, how much really?

Its been a long while since i tried this way of eating.
Have been losing succesfully on a very similar low carb diet for months and am now wanting to clean up with induction. I have spotted some carb bad habits sneaking back into the lifestyle. :guns

But wanted to ask every one out there about how much mayo /butter/cheese they manage to eat and still lose with. :confused
The psychological rule of these foods is NO NO! bad ! Stay away or youll gain weight. Its something i struggle to get my head around on atkins.

I feel that on atkins i need to eat fat rich foods to satiate my appetite or i eat too much, so i tend to have meals that seem to be oozing in fats and oils ?Is this incorrect and bad for my weight loss goals? urplequ:

Any advice would be so appreciated.

I had forgotten how helpful it is to have access to such a great dieting forum like this. Glad to be back! :icondance

Cheese is limited daily according to the 2002 version of the diet (see the Food List). In the 1992 version, cheese was treated like meat and eggs. The cheese limitation was probably due to the fact that cheese is a calorie dense food. 1 ounce contains about 100 calories. So my guess is that some people over-ate the cheese, didn't lose or gained weight due to the cheese calories.

Fats (butter, mayonnaise, etc.) have not limits per se, but again, it's a calorie dense food. 1 tablespoon of butter or olive oil has about 100 calories. So while it's true you can technically eat a pound of butter daily, you might not lose the weight. 2big quotes an interview an Atkins nutritionist gave in around 2000 (I've read it too!). In it she said a lady couldn't figure out why she wasn't losing weight, eventhough she was in ketosis. It turns out the lady was eating a stick of butter every night with dinner.

If you want to keep track of the percentages of fat/protein/carbs you should be aiming for during Induction, the Atkins Center used to recommend that 65% of your daily calories should be from fat, 30% from protein, 5% from carbs. You can track these percentages, free, on fitday.com
