Hey all, I am about to start my Induction on Monday, so I am going to go shopping for it. Exciting!! I have done atkins before, but have heard lately that tofu is fine to have in induction. Is that true? I never had it before in induction, but if I could have it I will be one happy girl!!!! Please tell me what the stats are on it and how much can I have...Thanks a bunch!!!

In the Induction Acceptable Foods list in the book, the "Cheese footnote" lists soy cheese. In the books older than the 2002 edition, the cheese footnote says "soy cheese (tofu)." In the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution Carbohydrate Gram Counter, which was published the same time as the 2002 edition of the book, it says todu is allowed during Induction.

So, tofu is allowed during Induction because the soy cheese listed in the Cheese Footnote of the 2002 ed. is probably referring to tofu. Way back in the 1960s and 1970s (and up until the late 1980s when I became a vegetarian), tofu was sometimes called "soy cheese" because the process of making tofu was similar to the process of making diary cheese. Recently, however, vegan food companies make a fake cheese from soy milk that is flavored to taste like dairy cheeses. The vegan industry has taken to calling that product "soy cheese".

As Megs said, tofu is allowed as being 'soy cheese' so you need to include any tofu as part of your 3-4 ounces of cheese 'allowance'
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I'm curious with your experience with Tofu while on the diet. I just bought some and I absolutely love it, but I'm afraid it will slow down my weight loss. How do you typically prepare it?

            Re: Tofu in induction?

Hi Lloyd, this is me almost 2 monthes later, while eating tofu. I have lost a total of 31lbs. I don't have tofu everyday, though I do like it in a occasional stir-fry, or I have those noodle's (forgot the name of them) made out of tofu. Anways, I have eaten those about once or twice a week since I have started, and it has not affected my weight loss. But everyone is different. So I suggest just sticking to what DR. A says, in just having a 3-4 ounces of it a day.
