  • Question about Aspartme!!!

    Hello,

    I am in my 8th day of Induction and have lost 10 lbs so far, which I am very excited about. I have been sticking to the diet and exercing 6 days a week so far and am still modivated.

    I haveb been reading to stay away from ASPARTME. I have been eating sugar-free jello and drinking caffeine-free diet coke once a day. Both contains ASPARTME. Should I stop doing this and just stick to water. Will this slow down my weight loss? Why is this bad?

    Can someone please help me?

    Aspartame can stall some people's weight loss, and Dr. Atkins advises us to avoid it (page 128 of DANDR)

    Induction is a time to face our sweet tooth demon (if we have one) and give him the boot!
    It would be a good idea to ditch the jello and the soda until you are done your two week induction period so you can get a really true idea of how fast/slow your metabolism is (Page 158 of DANDR).

    You can decide to add it back in after, but we encourage you to look for something without aspartame in it. :yes

      Like Moochie says, it is a good idea to stick to water for now. The reason Dr. A encourges us to not eat it is because it has been proven to raise blood sugar levels and give you sugar cravings. Splenda, on the other hand, is a more natural substance and is made from sugar and does not impact the blood sugar in your body. It would be best to stay away from it but if you feel that you MUST have a can of diet soda, try Diet Rite; it comes in 4 flavors (including cola) and is made with Splenda. Or if it is jello you can't live without (which still would not be good. lol!). try Hunt's Snack Pack Sugar free gels. It is ready made "jello" and is made with Splenda also. It comes in orange/cherry package together. But you really should try to fend off the sweet demon. Stop using the products first and if you start craving them, then you really should leave the jello and soda alone til after you have been on extended induction or OWL. I, myself, drink a can of Diet Rite every couple of days or so but I could take it or leave it. Don't forget---it does NOT count toward water intake and you must get your water in DAILY. Good job on the weight loss by the way! That rocks!! :dancingb:
