Come on people, give me some support!!!!! LOL..... Here's the deal.... My boyfriend and I decided to go on atkins together this time... We have both done it on and of on our own before, with him always being more willfull and staying with it than i did... I always gave up and just went back to eating... Although after he would loose the amount he wanted to loose he would revert back to old habits also..... Still here we go again, this time together....now it seems as though its turning into a competition, although not by my doings.... I know he is a naturally competitive person, as am i, but i was hoping it would not by any means turn into a competition........ when i talk about how slowly i loose weight, he talks about fast it falls off him..which it does.....when i say ill be lucky to loose 8 pounds in a month, he'll come back with i can loose 10 in 2 weeks..... its only been 5 days, lol, but its starting to drive me crazy... he doesnt drink water, only diet soda, while i havent touched a soda in days......he still snacks on certain things, that i wouldnt dare put near my mouth.....im just hoping that i dont get discouraged when his weight starts dropping way more faster than mine, although im sure it will........ive just gotta stick with this................................no matter how long it takes......

    Re: Men vs. Women

UNFORTUNATELY, men lose faster than we do and thats a fact, and if you try to compete, you won't win, BUT, if you stick with it, you'll win in the end.
Maybe the competitions can be something like, finding Induction Friendly recipes for foods that you both love.
    Or exercise competition?
Don't diet to compete with him, diet to give yourself the health you want.

I like Desertthorn's idea of creating competition that is on a level playing field.

Could you share with him that it doesn't make you feel good when he "one ups" you on what he can lose compared to you? Most men lose faster than women. It's just a fact. He should be there to support you, not discourage you by things he says. Does he know how it makes you feel? He could be unaware...

BTW - he should be drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day.

Good luck and come here often for support and motivation.

Friendly compitition is always good, it'll always make us work harder! And if your not already, add hardcore gym-time to your dieting! It will seriously quicken things up, and it will be really noticable too. Good luck!

May I suggest that you don't compete against each other but find ways to support each other. Unfortunately, men and women have completely different metabolisms so it is not a fare playing field. You are worth it - a healthy body. Don't let your boyfriend derail your successes. Reach for the stars!

Hey guys... I guess my previous post may have came out of frustration... let me begin by saying that im not thinking that my boyfriend is doing it intentionally to be mean or to make me feel bad, he would never do that.... he is actually been supportive... its just that his comments make me irritated because I know that he will loose faster than me... it wasnt my intention to paint him as the total bad guy....like i said, he is competitive.... i also think that the healthy competition workout things are a great idea and we will really be doing that.....thanks for all your help and support..... im gonna need it

All I have to say is...THE BIGGEST LOSER!!!!!! Because two women have won twice in a row now. Yes, we have different metabolisms but, if you too keep counting the (lbs) it probably won't help your relationship if he loses more pounds than you do and you can't manage to keep the competition friendly..If you can figure out your percentage of weight loss, it might work better. My husband is one of those muscular naturally thin people (UGH..don't know how we got together!!) and it kills me to NO END that he can eat what I can't ..I mean he shovels it..and he gains NOTHING! What helps me is that he encourages me by telling me how great I look and when he buys he treats like chocolate for Valentines day..he will buy me sugar free chocolate..He listens to me..so if your boyfriend listens and is respectful you guys should do okay! I did the Atkins with my mom and having the support was great if you can get through the competition thing. Good luck!!

                Re: Men vs. Women

I'm so glad to hear that other people feel the way that I do. I'm really dealing with the same thought process. Me and my husband are doing this together. He had done the diet prior to us knowing each other and we have tried it once together. It seems that the scale like him better than it likes me. He reassures me that he has more weight to loose, but it doesn't help when I'm working out more than ever, and being very strict to the rules. He drinks more than 2 beverages with sweeteners in them, eats 3 pieces of diet candy a day. I only have one drink with one sweetener in it, and have only eaten the candies twice and I just seem to drop some then gain a few oz back. I'm trying not to feel discouraged. And he is very supportive. But it really sucks.

yea it does suck.... i weighed yesterday and it showed i had lost 5 pounds.. jumped back on the scale today and it was back up 4 pounds..... while my bf has already lost 10, while still eating ketchup and bbq sauce, drinking diet soda and not exercising... it does get frustrated, but we just gotta stick with it.

                    Re: Men vs. Women

Men definitely lose faster than women; it's chemistry. You just have to keep doing it. You're already losing, just not as fast as him. Don't compete, and if he starts up, just tell him how it makes you feel. He may not realize how sensitive a thing it is. You're also lucky that he's doing it with you. My husband eats the total opposite of me, and won't even try to do this. He's tall and thing, and very handsome, but he's on lipitor and won't even try to do Atkins, even though I've told him that it would get him off of his medication, in my opinion; and he'll never know whether it works or not because he won't try it.

So, hang in there, baby, and just remember -- you're a woman!

                      Re: Men vs. Women

It will catch up to him though in the long run. You will steadily slim down and improve your health and he will hit a brick wall and have no good habits to fall back on. Following the plan strictly is a way to destroy all the bad ways of thinking we all grew up with, no matter where we are from, and he will also not have that. That is what sustains us long term and what most of us, me included, have to work hard to do.

A better competition would be to see who can do the proper amounts of food and exercise for the longest period of time. Bet you would out do him in that competition easily

                        Re: Men vs. Women

My wife's (ErinLea) weight loss on a percentage is 2.7% while mine is 3.5% which is a little better than hers, but I am extremely over weight. I am sure as I get lower, mine will slow down too.

Still, it will all work out in the end. To reach her goal, she needs to loose a little less than 24% while I need to loose a little under 43%.

I do feel bad though because there is no question she has put in way more effort into exercise and than I have and been much more strict on the diet than me. I get very excited about loosing so rapidly, then I feel bad worrying it may be discouraging to her.

At the end of the day, it's not a race. We're in this together to the end, and we are both making great decisions that will enable us to live healthier happier lives together for a longer period of time, and that's what it is all about!

Oh dear. Sounds like my household. Infact, the boyf even has a sneaky beer occassionally! He thinks eating this way is not great for your health but is doing it to support me - yet he jumps on the scales everyday!!!
