  • Induction Flu???

So far I have been doing Atkins for 5 days. I've found getting carbs below 20 is really difficult while eating veggies, but I've managed to keep my carbs between 20 and 30. I also exercise at moderate to high intensity for one hour every day so I'm sure I'm burning those carbs.

My question is why do I not have any of these 'induction flu' symptoms. No headaches, nausea, 'brain fog', or leg cramps. The only thing I'm noticing is that my appetite has really really decreased. So far today I've eaten only about 950 calories according to Fitday.

Can I be in ketosis without having induction flu?

Yes - I am another of the lucky people like you who did not feel 'yucky' when they started induction The loss of appetite is a good indication, so keep up the good work!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

yes i'm definitely losing... 6 pounds in 5 days! i just weighed myself this morning.

well it's good to know that having induction flu is not necessary. i guess i'm just a lucky one? i heard that blood type determines what kind of food we are meant to eat. I'm an O and supposedly meats are what we are meant to eat... so i dunno but maybe it was easier for my body to switch from carbs to meats. Elizellen, are you by chance an O too?

regardless, i'll take the weightloss as a sign!

                  Re: Induction Flu???

I've started atkins probably 20 times in my life. I've never had the induction flu. However, this last week I started induction and I had 3 nights in a row where I woke up drenched in night sweats, don't know if the two were related. If they were, then I just experienced my first induction flu.

Well, I am at the end of my day 2. I think this is gonna be rough...lol. Just thinking about eating what I am "allowed" to eat makes me feel like vomiting. I feel like I have nonstop morning sickness. Does this feeling pass? If so, how long should I be expecting to feel this way?

                      Re: Induction Flu???

I just finished Day 6 of Induction and I didn't get "Induction flu" or any real problems at all (yet). In my case, I had previously pretty much given up eating wheat, milk, and sugar so I'm sure it helped a lot to not be breaking all those addictions at once. Also I kind of "practiced" induction-type eating for about a week while I was reading the book and preparing myself mentally to start for real, so I guess perhaps I gradually ramped down rather than going cold turkey on carbs. In any case, I'm quite relieved that the Induction was so smooth for me (so far) and I hope I'm out of the woods now as far as "Induction flu" symptoms go. We should just thank our lucky stars that we didn't get all those symptoms since they sound like they can be quite challenging for a few days. To all of you suffering, my sympathies and hang in there.

I couldn't resist getting the ketone strips (I know they aren't deemed reliable and don't work for everyone). But for me it has been very encouraging to see the color gradually get darker as each day passes...especially since I wasn't symptomatic. I guess that has felt reassuring to me that I was indeed in ketosis. Now we'll just have to see if the scale has something nice to say after my first week is up...(oh, please).

P.S. FWIW, my blood type is A+
