I'm on my 16th day of induction. I was feeling ok for the first week and a half but in the last 3 days, around 6pm, I literally feel like I could close my eyes and sleep! It's not just being tired, when I close my eyes I really feel like I'm seconds away from dozing off. I have to jump up and move around. I almost fell asleep reading to my daughter. I've never been this sleepy..maybe a bit tired but not like this. Is it the diet?

Re: Feeling Extremely Sleepy!
Each person reacts differently to a change in their eating habits. Early on, I found I had more energy although lately I too have found myself dozing off in the evening when I'm not active enough. You might want to take a multi-vitamin if you aren't already to ensure you are getting nutrients you might be lacking. You should also aim for a minimum of 64 ounces of water since water helps keep the metabolism moving which in turn keeps the body energized. Exercise can boost your energy levels throughout the day too. Finally, the body rejuvenates during sleep so getting a minimum of 7-8 hours a night is beneficial to your weight loss efforts. It may be that you really are tired and the change in your diet has actually allowed your brain to recognize the signal of your overworked system. If nothing fits, a visit to the doctor may at least keep you from worrying that it's anything more serious. Good luck (and sweet dreams)!Eric

Re: Feeling Extremely Sleepy!
I had the same thing during my induction and actually it lasted about 6 weeks. In adition to the things that Eric mentioned -I encourage you to consider a food sensitivity. For me I found out it was tomatoes. Which sort of makes sense since they are technically fruits even though we are allowed them on induction and they are from the nightshade family. I found that when i ate tomatoes I was dreadfully sleepy - like drugged and lethargic, fall asleep behind the wheel sleepy. I gave them up and slowly regained my energy. I was able to re-integrate them down the road and now I can eat about 3-4oz(raw) per day without a problem. But for awhile I couldn't tolerate them at all. It's likely you are reacting to something in your diet. Induction is very much a detox and elimination diet. Working OWL is so important b/c it will teach you about your body.

Wow, I read this post because I have been feeling the same way, so sleepy lately, I'm on day 13 of induction...I have been eating a lot of tomatos, almost every single day in my salads, so that was an eye opener, so to speak!
I'm going to try vitamins (potassium was suggested in another forum) cut out some tomatos and get in some exercising and see how that works. I'll try adding water, it's just so hard for me, but I've been doing iced tea and when the ice melts I add more and more until I have almost clear water. I will watch for your progress, too. Thanks for posting this newsie!

Re: Feeling Extremely Sleepy!
Another food to consider is lettuce - remember how Peter Rabbit fell asleep in the lettuce field?
From this website suggesting sleep-inducing remedies Herbal Remedies for Common Ailments - Insomnia & Sleep ProblemsLettuce has a long-standing reputation as a soporific food. The Romans were particularly keen on it, and modern research has discovered that it does contain sleep-inducing compoundsWondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
