Just a quick question - whats the deal with cafinated coffee again? I was just trying to explain to someone at work about why I cant have it and I had a mind blank!

Have been drinking green tea instead - Oh boy, how I miss the hard stuff . . . . . .

    Re: Coffee

I think it's that it can have an effect on blood sugar levels and can cause cravings.

      Re: Coffee

That's perfectly right, Zara. Excessive caffeine lowers blood sugar levels, stealing energy from the cells and forcing the body to release counteracting hormones like adrenaline. For some people, this automatic process works great and there is absolutely no problem. On the other hand, there are others whose bodies are not able to produce the necessary quantity of adrenaline. Therefore, to get the missing energy, their bodies will ask for food... and this happens either through cravings or, if you are a little more lucky, through overeating of legal foods.

Personally, I drink regular coffee without any issues (usually about 10-12 oz per day, more when studying for exams).

Are you in induction? I believe it depends on how much you are willing to risk. I am a good girl and I would advise you to try it only when you move to OWL.

            Re: Coffee

Ahhhh. I see - I am on induction. To be fair, I didnt want to seem a bit whingy, but I jumped on the scales this morning - Day 5 - and have shifted the grand total of 1 lbs and apart from the Diet Coke, I have been doing everything perfectly. I guess that probably answers the same question as Diet Coke also contains caffeine.

              Re: Coffee

Maybe, but not necessarily. How tall are you? What is your starting weight? How much water are you drinking? Are you exercising? Taking supplements? Eating enough fat? Close to TOM? Did you eat more sodium yesterday or the day before? There are a lot of things that can change significantly the number you see on the scale.

Yes its a YMMV (your mileage may vary) kind of thing. I know many people that can't tolerate caffiene in the induction phase. I don't have any problems. Thank God. I am so glad I don't have to give it up. But, I hear it does mess some people up. So kinda be careful

                  Re: Coffee

I was totally hooked on caffeine and so gave it up completely for induction. I can now have a couple of cups of caff coffee in the morning and a decaff in the afternoon/evening without any problems.

                    Re: Coffee

I drink a cup or two of coffee each day and I still loose. So its really up to your body.

                      Re: Coffee

green tea is NOT a herbal tea and contains just as much caffeine as black (regular) tea.

the difference is about the amount of tannic acid. tannic acid can block iron absorption so don't drink tea with ur meals if you want to absorb the most iron.

Kiwi, you might want to post a menu. I think something other than the diet coke might be wrong
