So, I was just reading somewhere that we can't have sugarfree jello on induction and I have been. I have one every other day or so... I am bummed that I screwed it up. I am on day 13 and have lost 20lb but I was sitting here so proud that I made it the whole two weeks with NO cheating or anything and then I find out I have been all along...!!! arggg

    Re: bummed....

Caitlyn... others may not agree, but I personally don't feel that jello is a cheat.
The issue with sugar-free jello is that it's sweetened with aspartame... it's the aspartame that Dr. A and others take issue with. Just google it and you're likely to find all kinds of medical issues/concerns expressed! Also... some people following this plan have experienced stalls when ingesting Asp.

Knowing the concerns for this sweetener, I personally choose to eat/drink Asp... I have one diet coke to drink a day and I too eat sugar-free jello - usually about two or three spoons a day after dinner. This product does not cause me to stall.

So in my opinion... if you're not stalling... and if you're working hard at keeping your sweet tooth at bay... and you'll progress through the rungs learning to take this eating plan through to maintenance/way of life... then jello is NOT a no-no. Everything in moderation.

Hopefully Jello will eventually use Splenda as their sweetener...

Uh oh. Me too!! I didn't know we couldn't have sugar free jello! I thought that was one of the best things to get because there's NOTHING in it. I'm on day 1. But I ate one already! Now I'm worried.

            Re: bummed....

Congrats! I had to laugh when I read your post because its lunch and I just polished off a black cherry sugar free J-ELLO! I have it all the time. The issue is that SOME people experience a stall in their weight loss from ingesting asparatame but you obviously don't. In the book it says sugar free jello made with splenda is allowed but I have never had any issues with asparatame and still eat things that contain it without any problem. So its a non-issue dear!

              Re: bummed....

you know - even though you feel like you're "cheating" - you've lost 20 pounds!!!!! the way I see it is that extra item (all-be-it not "legal") works for you then GO FOR IT!
20 lbs in 2 weeks is FABULOUS!!!!! I've been following induction now for 2 weeks exactly and i'm "only" down 5 pounds. it's frustrating - but i'm also insulin resistant and even in the book, Dr. A states that women who are IR may have a much slower loss than others - so i can't tell you how jealous I am of you that you've lost 20 pounds! lol. (although i'm very happy with my 5 pound loss).

but if you can "get away" with eating the jello - and as long as it's only every other day - then i say go for it! i can guarantee you that 1 sugar free jello is a MUCH better choice than say ice cream or a candy bar - right!!???

congrats on the weight loss - that's awesome!!!!

                  Re: bummed....

Caitlin, I am the one that threw the flag on the Jello. If you read further down that thread, you will also see that I am a non-purist in my approach to this WOE. For some reason I seem to be unaffected by a lot of the things that cause stalls in many people. I ate almonds thoughout my induction (in small quantities). It is my opinion that you will find things that you can get away with if you are willing to accept a few stalls along the way. I will be the first to tell you that this WOE works best if you follow the book strictly. I follow it in a way that I can stick with it and when I leave the safety of the well written plan I do so at my own peril. As with many things in this WOE, everyone is different. Good luck with your journey, it's great to have you here.

                  T. J.

tfek if you ate almonds you were not doing induction
The rules of induction is only to eat legal food.

I agree that there is such a thing as your millage may vary on some of these issues - artificial sweetener is one. If you're seeing good losses aspartame may not be a problem for you.
But it may be a good thing to try and work to keep the sugar monster at bay. Keeping feeding it to keep it quiet is always tempting but it can be better to just shrink it by making it through days without it. Different things will work for different people here. And it is a bit a question about knowing yourself. Be perfectly honest with your self.

Remember there is a limit of three sweeteners a day. And very sweet pops may have more than one serving of sweetener per can.

Caitlin 20 pounds is great. Way to go. I agree with everyone. No reason to be bummed. Tell it to the mountains!!!

Liv, you are right, I've said it before, I'm a bad, bad boy!

I did however get into ketosis. I did train my body to burn fat as it's main fuel source. I feel like I accomplished what induction is supposed to do, just not the way Dr. A outlined. I think I got to the right place. I am not disciplined enough to do this (and I hate vegetables) the way it's supposed to be done. You folks that can do it by the book are the goal I'm trying to reach. I'm still a good resource for low carb recipes, and I know the rules, just have a problem with some of them. I want to help everyone adhere to the WOE to the best of their abilities. I also have an uncanny knowledge of liquid poop and other things to share.
