  • Scale vs Inches Question

I understand that you can loose inches and not move on the scale... due to water retention ect ect..

    BUT

How many inches can you loose before the scale moves.. I know its different for everyone.. but Say I loose 5 inches all over.. you would think thats considerable weight.. so does that mean that one day I would wake up and there would be a massive drop on the scale.. surely they need to coinciede somehow.. I mean if you lost loads of inches.. it would have to effect the scale.....

    mmmmmmm???

    Re: Scale vs Inches Question

if you exercise, your muscles might be getting more dense, causing the scale not to show a change. so i guess it can depend on how much and what type of exercise you do.

my mom was dieting and the scale did not budge for i think 8 weeks, but she was working out a lot and you could tell that she was getting smaller all over.

      Re: Scale vs Inches Question

I didn't lose pounds for almost about 6 months. But during that time, I lost dress sizes. In fact, it was during fall and winter when I stopped losing on the scale (one week, I would be down a pound, the next week I would be up a pound, etc.) I followed my measurements, but losing an inch here and there, didn't mean anything to me. But everyone here at ADBB, kept saying to make friends with my measuring tape and not to pay much attention to the scale.

In the spring, I decided to buy a pair of capri pants for summer. I went to the store and headed immediately for the extended sizes. I picked up a pair of pants that were the size I knew I was last at: it was too big. I picked up a size smaller and it was too big. I picked up a smaller size, and it was too big. I started panicking that I couldn't fit into any of those pants. I worked so hard on my Atkins and I couldn't find any pants that could fit me. The scale was reading a steady 195 pounds and I was still as huge as a whale---bigger in fact because the size 26 W pants couldn't fit either. I was almost in tears because all that work failed: I couldn't fit into a single pair of pants. Then it dawned on me....I couldn't fit into those pants because they were too big for me!

That was the moment when I really understood that the scale really meant nothing. I was 195 pounds and I fit into a size 16. I was finally in "normal" sizes, not the extended ones. I shrunk.

I can't guarantee that you will be much smaller size than what your weight says you should be. But I can tell you that unless you have to be a certain weight (like if you are in the military or if you are going on a hot air balloon ride), I wouldn't pay much attention to what the scale says. I think most of us have goals to be able to wear size whatever jeans or be able to fit into a specific dress. So I think if you want to be a certain size, that should be your goal, not the pounds.

The scale eventually caught up, but I really didn't care. I mean, who cares if I weighed 150 pounds, I was smaller and I was able to fit into smaller clothes and I didn't have pieces of me hanging off chairs anymore.
