  • What am i doing wrong??

I started induction 2 weeks ago. The first week I did a number of things wrong (like starting right before my TOM) but I still lost 2 pounds. Now this week I have done everything right (according to me) and yet I still lost only 1 pound!!
My ketostix stay in moderate with the exception of 1 day that I had a dark purple reading. I am very discouraged at this point.
I am wondering perhaps there's something wrong with my menu, so here's a sample of what I eat:
    Breakfast
1 cup of decaf instant coffee with a squirt of heavy cream and 1 pkt splenda
1 grilled hamburger patty OR 2 scrambled eggs with less than an ounce of shredded mozarella
    Lunch
2 cups shredded romaine lettuce and 1 tomatoe, with a squirt of olive oil and salt
1 7oz grilled steak or 2 hamburger patties w/ 1 slice of swiss cheese on top (1 slice for both patties not one each)
1 tsp cream cheese w/splenda and cinnamon (I prepare 2 ounces of this early in the morning to snack on when I want something sweet)
    Dinner
2 cups shredded romaine lettuce and 1 tomatoe, with olive oil and salt
1 grilled 7oz steak or hamburger patties or 2 grilled chicken thighs or 1 grilled cod steak with a sauce made with heavy cream, shallots and curry (just a couple of tbsp of this sauce on my fish)
The rest of the cream cheese mix that I made in the morning (if there's any left). If not I just have a cup of decaff instant coffee with 1 pckt of splenda

I drink more than 2 liters of water a day.

    My initial weight was 131
    After 1 week I was 129
    A week after I am 128

    I am 35 y/o and 5.4.
My normal weight is 115. My goal weight is AT LEAST 120 (I had a baby 5 months ago).

Any clues of what am I doing wrong?

I am just starting Induction, but I was under the impression that you are only supposed to have three cups of veggies per day...it looks like you are having six. Other than that, I don't know, but don't be discouraged...a loss is a loss.

You have 11 pounds to lose. You've removed 3lbs in 2 weeks. You do realize that you've removed 27% of the weight you want to lose in a lousy 14 days?!!! For someone that has 100lbs to lose, they'd have to remove 27lbs in those same 14 days to do as well as you have.

The biggest thing you're doing wrong is having expectations that are out of this world!

Keep it up. This isn't going to happen overnight. You're making amazing progress.

Well, it's quite discouraging when you read that everyone else is losing a ton of weight after their induction phase!!
Can we eat stirfry during induction? Like, steak with green onions, some ginger and brocoli for example?

They have 10x the weight to lose that you do. I promise you, when you're standing with 100lbs to lose and read that someone removed 27% of the weight they need to remove in 14 days- it's a bit of a bite in the hiney too.

This isn't a miracle weight loss program. It's not going to happen overnight - and like I said, your rate of loss is quite astonishing, really.

The stir-fry answer is yes. Allowed foods from the allowed foods list only during induction. Ginger isn't on it, but the rest is.

The first thing you are doing wrong is checking your scale. Knock it off. It's meaningless for now. Think about it: If you chopped off your arm, you would lose about fifteen pounds off the bat. Success right? You could enjoy it right up until you try to open a door.

Second; Exercise, exercise, exercise. Did I mention exercise? What I meant was exercise. Give your body an excuse to burn the carbs and burn the built up fat as fuel.

Third, Rome wasnt built in a day and neither will be the new you. Take your time, or you'll give up. I promise. Stay strong, be motivated, say no to drugs, drink you milk and stay in school! Or something.

Hello..and relax.. you got another 13 pounds to lose... you are almost there.. take your time.. do your induction and move on.. you can try to stay at induction for another week or so..and eat more fat...and decrease your veggies..too many carbs in there..
              and go for a walk

Re: What am i doing wrong??

Yes you're not doing anything wrong. You can expect to lose about 10% of the weight you're wanting to lose in induction and you are well over that number. So it is all good.
My advice would be to add exercise (if you are not doing it already) to tone up.
And yes you can stir fry. That is how I eat my veggies.

Congratulations on your excellent job done on induction

Now maybe move to OWL where you can have 3 cups of veg plus another 5 net carbs of them
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Splenda is the only safe artificial sweetener that is allowed in induction.. as long she keeps it up to 3 packets per day, it will be ok.

Re: What am i doing wrong??

Yes...but some people are sensative to this. I have seen many use Splenda on Induction and not have great success in dropping inches and pounds.

Once they went through Induction AGAIN w/o using Splenda, the weight melted of off.

If I remember correctly, the first book that came out in the 90's, Atkins did say not to use any type of sugar substitues during Induction, including Splenda.

The newer versions do say you can consume up to 3 packs a day, yes that is true.

But, everyone reacts to this crazy sweetner differently. In fact, new studies have proven that Splenda can actually cause weight gain and cravings the same as aspertame does.

Re: What am i doing wrong??

Not only that..( I agree with everything everyone has said up until now..) you are so close to your goal weight that it will not come off the same way. I am only 24 lbs from goal and weight loss has slowed..I still lose about 1-2 lbs a week (if I am lucky)..but, I started out at 220..you were only 131 to begin with..So, you just have to hang in there.

Also, I wanted to repeat what someone up there said..You are eating a bit more vegetables than you should and it seems like you are having alot of "extras" with the splenda, cream, etc. Some people don't do well with extras..The only way I could move beyond a plateau was to get rid of EVERYTHING that was extra for a little bit and just eat meat and vegetables.

Just remember that Atkins isn't a "quick" fix. People who have alot to lose are usually metabolically resistant and when they start this diet lose alot of water weight, etc and it seems like a HUGE loss when it isn't FAT it is water weight. I also had a baby 6 months ago..I weighed 236 when my daughter was born (now weigh 159) but, I was always heavy to begin with. Anyway, I dropped down to 212 within 6 weeks..Mostly from the baby but, also with dieting (Wasn't able to breast feed)..My weight loss was UNEVEN and my Dr. said it is mostly due to hormones and the fluxuations..It really takes up to a year or two for alot of people's body to get back to normal after giving birth. Your thyroid could be stalling you as well..since it regulations all the hormones..

You sound to me to be doing well..especially for the weight you are currently at..the weight loss you describe sounds right. But, you didn't mention if you were breast feeding..If you ARE there is another hormone issue right there.

Anyway..Let me say one more thing..You just had a baby!! Go easy on yourself! Personally, I think you are doing great..

Bummer.... Ok It is with a heavy heart that I shall remove the splenda from my diet....
What about the cheese?? Can I still snack on my 4oz of cheese a day??
Is it possible to drink TOO MUCH water?? Could I be retaining water instead of sheding it?

XMMWX: I stopped breasfeeding two months ago.
