Re: What am i doing wrong??

Hey..Don't feel too bad..We don't mean forever!!! I indulge myself in that flavored water..LOVE IT..you know the fruit 2 O..and I eat sugar free chocolate.especially during that special time we women ALL LOVE! But, when I notice my weight loss is slowing up..I just give it up for a few weeks..If that doesn't work, try checking with your doctor with regards to your thyroid..I was just diagnosed with Hypothyroidism..because of my age (3 and all the hormonal ups and downs of the last few months, (and heredity too!) haha..My thyroid just gave up..THAT slowed my weight loss too! Good luck!! Let us know how it goes and if it works!

What about the cheese?? Can I still snack on my 4oz of cheese a day??
Is it possible to drink TOO MUCH water?? Could I be retaining water instead of sheding it?

You should still be ok with the cheese.

Just watch out for fake sweetners, not because you are on Atkins but just in general.
They are made in labs from artificial means. The human body is not equipped to properly metabolize such substances, and those with optimum metabolic function can break down these sweetners, but unfortunately it gets stored in the fat cells and gets trapped. Causing God only knows what later on down the road.

It can be possible to drink to much water to the point where you are flushing your vitamins and minerals out of your system.

If I remember correctly you should drink 1/2 your weight. So if you weigh for example 200lbs. You should be consuming 100oz of water, and adjust according to your weight loss.

Can you give some references or url's for these studies, as I am sure many members would be interested in reading them.

Re: What am i doing wrong??

As far as I am aware, there is only one study that points to the negative effects of Splenda. The full article is not available online, but you can read the abstract here:
Splenda Alters Gut Microflora and Increases Intestinal P-Glycoprotein and Cytochrome P-450 in Male Rats - Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health, Part A: Current Issues

The conclusion of the study is that sucralose in quantities of 1.1-11 mg/kg/day reduces the beneficial bacterial microflora in the gut and causes weight gain in rats. I am going to skip forward over the fact that the study was funded by the Sugar Association... In 3 servings of splenda, as recommended in the book, there are 3 g of sweetener, which mean 3000 mg. Of these 1.1% are sucralose, so that means 33 mg. I am relatively close to goal, in kg I weigh 72 (~160 lbs). So to see the changes observed in rats, I would have to eat at least 80 mg of sucralose, which is almost double the quantity one finds in 3 servings.

On the other hand, FDA allows 5 mg/kg/day of sucralose, which for me would mean about 33 servings of Splenda. I'm not going to deny that there are people who think drinking diet soda will make them lose weight so they indulge in this enormous quantity of sweetener, but this is not true for someone doing Atkins.

Nice post G. The interesting thing about that study was that it was sponsored by the sugar producers who were/are losing some ground to Splenda. It was basically done to dig up any dirt they could find on the product. And that was what the scientists came up with. It wasn't to bad.

(And barbecuer I agree with the other posts - you are doing great - I'm going to listen to the advice and listen to my measuring tape, not the stupid scale)
