  • Messed Up...Feel Like Giving up

This morning I had two Atkins Peanut Butter bars. I'm on induction, but before this slip up I already felt a little dejected...on induction for 18 days and really haven't lost much.

I've done little things, like lots of coffee and replacing a meal with the Atkins bars, but I think maybe I'm meant to be fat like this for the rest of my life? Seriously, I feel really bad.

But back to my original question, now that I've had those two bars, that take me well past my daily carb limit, should I just forget the day?

If you forget the rest of the day, I assume you mean load up on carby foods now that you think you 'blew it' I would say that is a bad strategy. Each carby food would just mean it would take you just that much longer to get back into ketosis.. and you don't automatically know the bars will kick you out. If you eat Atkins style the rest of the day, if you do get 'kicked out' of ketosis it will be only for a short time.

Let me ask you... have you felt any other positive effects from Atkins? More energy, clearheaded, less cravings for sugar? I feel so much more clearheaded, it is amazing. If I got stuck at 190 for the rest of my life, it would be okay, just to be able to think. When I am eating carbs like crazy, I just want more.. and I live in a fog.

I guess I am saying, the weight is important, it is okay to want to be thinner and healthier. That is why we are here for the most part. But sometimes you have to realize there is more to it than just pound, there is health. There is not getting diabetes. There is not crashing every day from donuts or candy. That kind of thing!

Hope it gets better, but really.. .stay the course!

Re: Messed Up...Feel Like Giving up

As momtomany1 said, it is better to just continue eating the very next bite on-plan after making a bad choice to eat something not 'allowed' for your phase of Atkins.

Depending on your individual CCLL (which you will be finding in OWL) you might still be in ketosis, so deciding to 'forget it' for the day would only make things worse for you.

I am sorry you feel dejected about your progress so far

How much weight in total were you hoping to lose and how much was the 'not much' number for your first 14 days on induction?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Thanks for responding ladies. As you all suggested, I continued on with the plan and I feel better for it. I upped my water today as well. I was feeling really down for a moment, I was just hoping I would lose more weight during induction. So far, it looks like I've lost about 3 to 4 pounds. I ultimately want to lose 50 pounds.

        Thanks again ladies.

you CAN do this. don't just give up. yes, you feel like you "messed up"...but just because you have one flat tire on your car - does that mean you need to go and let the air out of all four?

no. i understand frustration as i've been doing this for 20 days now and i've "only" lost 5 pounds - but I also know that i am insulin resistant and it will take a much longer time for me to lose weight.

YOU ARE NOT DESTINED TO BE FAT FOREVER! reallly. it's your life and YOU have the choice AND the right to be healthy. And even if you don't lose weight immediately - it's about being healthy and NOT eating all that sugar, high fructose corn syrup, pasta, bread, potatoes, rice, etc...everything that really does mess up our bodies.

Again - I totally understand your frustration because i reallllly wish i was down even just a few more pounds - but the way i see it? if i wouldn't have changed my eating ways 20 days ago, i could EASILY have GAINED 5 pounds.

I haven't been "perfect" with induction - and i restarted induction "clean" today.

you CAN do this and you ARE worth it.

A 'normal' amount to lose in your 14 days induction is said to be between 5% and 10%, so your 3-4 pounds is about spot on

Have you started the next phase of Atkins (Ongoing Weight Loss aka OWL) yet? Many people find it kickstarts their losing

Cut down on coffee, substitute decaf, water, hot tea... etc...
Drink more water and exercise! What kind of exercise are you doing?
Giving up on yourself doesn't help you, it just hurts you. Everyone gets discouraged, but who knows? you might wake up tomorrow with a big surprising whooshi so keep going! Don't forget to measure yourself as well. Seeing the inches decreasing is another way to measure your success not just the number on the scale.
we all go through periods of discouragement, but giving up isn't the answer and just delays our success.
