  • dizzness :(

This is my 3rd day during induction and today i feel absolutely horrible. I was really dizzy adn nautious and i slept for a while hoping i would feel better, but nothing happened, still dizzy. I ate an atkins advantage bar and drank water, sitll feeling dizzy. .. I want to go out to eat tongiht, and i was wondering if crab dip was ok? no bread or anythign just crab dip. Isn't crab dip basically cream cheese, cream, and crab meat? Also, is there a limit on how many advantage bars you can eat? I try to limit myself to one per day... I know a lot of people don't like them, but i dunno they manage to make my cravings for sweets go away!.. Also, eggs when u go out to eat, are they ok to eat right? I hope resturants don't add anything in their eggs to make them not alright for atkins. anyone have any awsneres to my questions?

    ugh

I feel for you, this is my second time on Atkins, and I have been on Induction for one full day now. I felt a little light headed today, but I know the worst is yet to come. I meant to write more, but my kids are at me, so hang in there (it is so worth it), maybe more later.

      Hi Kgold,

What your feeling is the withdrawal from sugar and carbs, it feels terrible, it's earned the name "Induction Flu" because that's pretty much how it feels. Bu the good news is it passes.

Now not to sound harsh but between the Lipton iced tea, the Atkins bars and the fact that you don't have a clear idea of what you can and can't have on Induction I want to tell you two things.

      1) If you continue to try and do Atkins based on bits and pieces of information and don't read the book "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution" make no mistake you will fail - guaranteed.

      2) If you take the time to read....really read the book you'll undertsand the what whys and hows of this incredible life changing way of life. You'll have the knowledge to reinvent yourself to be that person you know exists within you - but have yet to see looking back at you in mirror

You have a choice to make...live fat and die...or live free, slim and healthy both physically, emotionally and spiritually but the only one who can make that happen - who can do the work is you.

All the support, care and guidance you could ever dream of is right here for you from people who genuinely care, but we are powerless unless you are committed to helping yourself.

That said, the best way to deal with Induction Flu is to tough it out, stop eating the bars and shakes. Eat according to the accepted foods list which you can print out from this site. Tape it to your fridge, you'll know it by heart in a day or two.

As for nausea, sip room temp water and eat small portions of things your sure of, like eggs fried in butter, a small salad with olive oil and pass on the vinegar and or lemon if your stomach is upset.

Crab Salad? Unless you can be 100% assured there are no fillers, sugars or anything else then it's ok, but considering where you are right now - I say pass.

For tonight stick with simple Atkins friendly foods, a grilled steak with some mushrooms, any roasted, grilled or pan fried meat and your veggies, no sauce except for butter. Drink ice water with lemon and pass on the coffee or tea - even decaf can be hard on your stomach if it's upset.

This weekend: Make a new start, re-dedicate yourself to the promise you made to lose weight and improve your health, ...and give yourself a gift, one that will reward you for a lifetime and that's get the book, read it ...really read it.

You'll find it's actually an inspiring fun easy read. Hit the supermarket with your acceptable foods list in hand and fill up your house with induction friendly foods.

Kgold, you can do this and you can definitely reap the rewards and results you see all over this board and it's 1700 members. But I can't urge you enough to start out on the right foot, do a clean induction, avoid all foods that your the least bit skeptical about - follow these simple guidelines and your success is guaranteed.

this board uses Dr Atkins 2002 book and it says only eat what is on the lists in chapter 11 and as you can see in the copy of those lists in our indcution stickies bars and their ingredients are not there

Only you can determine how clean of an Induction you want to do. To most here (not all), during the first 14 day it is important to eat only off the Acceptable Foods List. One of the fears is that they can cause continued cravings, never let your sweet tooth desensitize, and finally and perhaps worst of all, they can cause stalls in some people. Atkins.com certainly wants to sell you the bars, but there may be ingredients in the bars that are not on the list despite what the website says its acceptable phases are. However, you can certainly make up your own mind whether or not they are acceptable for you.

Plus there are other things besides bars to take care of that sweet tooth, a mock danish springs to mind.. very tasty

The dizziness will pass, it took me 4 days for the lightheadedness, nausea, and headaches to go away. Be sure your drinking plenty of water and getting plenty of sleep

                Hello kgold1 :wave
The others have answered your questions about the bars etc so I just wanted to chime in about eggs.
Personally at home we always make omelettes and scrambled eggs with just eggs and butter but many people use milk as well particularly restaurants where they might want to use less eggs and bulk it up to look better value.
So you do need to ask the restaurants what they put into the egg mixture and ask them specifically to fix your eggs without milk.
And check they use real eggs not some mix which might have anything in it! If neccessary ask to see the label on the packet if they do use some pre-mixed stuff that they add water or milk to to check there is nothing not on the acceptable foods list in it like milk solids or soy products.
If they cant fix eggs without milk etc ask for fried eggs instead!
                Hope this helps :hug
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

                  Atkins bars

Funny how the website isn't even as up to date as the 2002 book? Weird. Anyway, I had a bar last night, and felt like I was majorly cheating. Not good to do on my first day of induction, as it totally reminded me how much I love sweet things!

I remember last time I was on Atkins I didn't have anything sweet until about day 13, and it was one of those Ross chocolate bars (which taste better than Atkins bars and are cheaper). I enjoyed the taste, but by that point in induction, I felt I could take or leave the sugary taste.

So just for me, I don't think I'll be having another Atkins bar until much later, if not after, Induction.

                  Good luck!

                    Just want to add...

Look at the vegetables you are eating too. Lots of people rely on lettuce for the first few days (sometimes months). If you are, start eating the other vegetables you are allowed during Induction. In Chapter 11, Dr. Atkins has a paragraph or two about how too low a carb level might cause dizziness, fatigue, etc. You can increase your carbs by eating the non-lettuce veggies and that will alleviate your "Induction Flu" a bit.
