  • South Beach Bars on Induction?

I am wondering if the South Beach high protein meal bars are safe to use on induction? I am a busy mom, finishing my degree and working and don't always have the time to sit and eat a real meal. The Atkins Bars are god-awful, and the South Beach ones taste much better. Can the bars kick me out of ketosis? Does anyone have any better suggestions on snacks/meal replacements?
    Thank you!

Nope, sorry. they are not 'allowed' on induction - the only foods that can be eaten on induction are the foods listed in the book. These foods are all whole foods - nothing processed.

there should be a sticky which will tell you what foods are allowed on induction - but even the ATKINS bars and shakes are NOT allowed (i made this mistake already) - they ar NOT allowed, even though the atkins site says they are - it's just their marketing...you should only be eating foods from the allowed list of induction foods out of the book.

As with all bars and meal replacements you need to read the list of ingredients to decide if all of them are on the allowed list of foods.

I think most of those bars contian soy if not grains so would not be 'legal' till you reach the OWL level/rung where they are allowed.

And remember Atkins is not a 'high protein' way of eating (whatever the media say ) but a high fat/medium protein/low carb regime, and excess protein is not recommended.

        Dr Atkins wrote in DANDR
Moreover, excess protein converts to glucose and can keep fat from becoming the primary fuel.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: South Beach Bars on Induction?

          We're all busy! It's tough, isn't it?

          Here's what works for me:

On Sundays I go grocery shopping. Before I leave I make sure my kitchen is immaculate because when I get home I spend a solid hour in there..and then more time off and on while I get my stuff going on.

I cook a turkey breast and a beef roast in the roaster oven I have. It only takes a couple of minutes to throw one in there and turn it on. A couple of hours later I yank one out, throw in the other, and slice them up. Again, it goes in a sealed container and in the fridge. Easy to grab, easy to snack on, easy to cook with.

          Once that's started......

I wash and prep the veggies. This means I'll slice cucumbers, tomatoes, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, and jicama. I'll dice some cucumbers, tomatoes and onions as well. I stick them in little glad or hefty sealed containers and stack them in the fridge. Easy to grab, easy to snack on, easy to cook with. No muss. No fuss.

I hard boil 12-18 eggs while I'm prepping the veggies. Requires next to no baby sitting and I can get the veggies done while that does it's thing. When the eggs are done, I'll chop some and store them in a container for salads, I'll make some into deviled eggs and the rest I'll leave as is for grab and go snacks.

I separate the meat I buy into gallon sized freezer baggies for meals. For us that means 5 hamburger patties, 4 chicken breasts, 6 pork chops, etc per bag. I'll cut up 2-3lbs of chicken and cook it. Some stays in the fridge, some goes in the freezer. It's super easy to add a few spices to and toss on a salad or what-have-you.

I have this down to a science now. I can knock all that out in about an hour and my entire week is set. All the prep work is done and the excuses to eat junk are gone.

Seriously..if I can do it, anyone can. 5 kids under foot, 2 dogs, 2 dragons, 1 husband, 1 roommate, 3 jobs and a partridge in a pear tree?!....it's the *only* way to stay afloat in the "I don't wanna be chubby no-more" boat!

It really is easy to do...ya just gotta do it.
