  • I give up!!!!

thats right I give up Im tried of this...(no I dont give up on atkins Im starting tomorrow made ya look!!!) :wave

I did atkins for a month back in college lost 20 pounds bringing me to my goal of 200, I since then graduated and started partying living the single life and well 2 years off the diet, here I am all 310 lbs of me. :yikes Now its time for me to get back on the diet and go the rest of the way since the road ahead isn't looking to grand currently.

I know the basics of the diet and I know it works well but I just never could and still can't figure out how I go from a good little atkiner to carb muncher 9000. I am starting tomorrow and not looking back....

Anyone have good tips on staying commited during the initial phase and then into the point where you don't want carbs? In college it was easy I had a freezer full of venison that would last for a while. throw in some beef from the store and some chicken and I was good to go didn't need carbs...

what support ideas are here? Atkins buddys? I was here a while back and there was boot camps and such not too sure on what it is though. :help

I have a lot of questions, and I think I need to get the book again I think the "authorities of diets" conspired to break in my house and steal my copy!!!! I check my night stand it wasn't in the books holding it up either, so it MUST be those darn authorities....

We time to prepare for battle and whip them carbs :dancingb:

Hey, Will! It is time to requisition a new copy of the 2002 Version of Dr Atkin's New Diet Revolution, first and foremost. You can get themj through Amazon.com used for as little as $.50 a copy, plus S&H.

If you'd like an Atkins buddy or a mentor, definitely sign up for one on the Main Atkins board. Chynna has been assigning people looking for mentors with people who have paid it forward in helping others.

Come also join the CC club forum and hang out with others who are like us-- with a little more than 20 pounds to lose. The laughter and friendship is amazing, and all you have to lose is weight!

    Welcome home.

        Hello Will :wave

Last time you 'did' Atkins did you just follow induction till you reached goal and then go back to eating 'normal' food?

If so - that is why you put the weight back on gradually.

Successful Atkineers experience a mind-set change and by working through the 3 weightloss stages emerge at goal into the 4th stage for life and are able to maintain their goal weight for ever.

So follow the induction rules eating up to 20 carbs a day (over half of which will be from vegetables) till you decide that you want to move on to OWL. Use the questions in Chapter 13 of DANDR to help with this decision.

In OWL you will gradually add back food groups in the order suggested, testing your body's reaction to them and continuing to lose weight and discover if there are any particular foods you can't eat.

You will discover what carb level you can eat and still lose weight (one member at present is eating 100 carbs a day and still losing!!) and when about 5-10 pounds from goal you will move on to pre-maintenance to establish your carb level for maintaining weight.

Then into Maintenance for life, eating most foods available but in moderation and happily staying the trim figure of a man you will have become.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

          Welcome, Will!

Definitely pick yourself up another copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR for short) and brush up on it. :yes You mention about 'not needing carbs' which makes me wonder if you recall the importance of veggies in the plan? Not all carbs are bad for you, and we need the nutrients that the veggies give us. :yes

All the best to you, and I look forward to hearing about your progress!

I´ve got a tip for you that worked for me during the induction phase(I´m still there), whenever I felt like I really had to have something sweet, I´d drink some cream. I think it has a sweet taste to it that makes the worst cravings go away. Good luck!

                Hi Will,
Congrats on taking charge of your weight! My suggestions are to get ALL carb laden food out of your home. If you have others living with you that aren't on the diet, give yourself your own cabinet and shelf in the fridge. Check out the recipes section of the forum, lots of helpful hints there! You will probably feel like crap for the first few days of your new eating plan(withdrawal from carbs), but it will soon pass and youshould feel better than ever. I found that after the first 3 or 4 days, my cravings were gone. I think most people feel more in control by a week at the most. If you feel like you absolutely have to have something sweet, try a mock danish or mock french toast. As of late, I have become obsessed with cinnamon and splenda sprinkled pork rinds, it sounds horrible I know, but it tastes almost exactly like the cinnamon twist things at taco bell.

Yes that is how it happens often. :sadblinky

I am still 40 pounds or so from goal but hope that when I reach it I will have the willpower to stay lowcarbing and not eat those 'bad carbs' but stick with the mainly non-processed foods.
Hopefully I will have trained my appetite to stick with the 'maintenance' kinds of foods by then.

I really do think that for some of us we can't return to the old ways of eating :no
