  • what has changed for you since changing your way of eating???

i'm really curious what everyone's "side effects" of atkins has been - in a good way?!!! Have you noticed anything has changed - physically - that you used to have real problems with?

For me - being on metformin for the past year - every and any time i'd have a high carb meal, i'd end up getting "sick" and end up in the bathroom (sorry, tmi! lol) for honestly a good hour or so.

BUT for the past month that i've been low-carbin' it I haven't gotten "sick" except for ONE time after I had a grass fed ribeye.

i'm just wondering what has changed for all of you?

mmm... let's see now.. 1. More energy (feel like I need to run all day lol) 2. Sleeping better 3. Walking miles and miles, and when I get back I want to go out again and walk some more..4. Drop in dress sizes in one month only. 5. I can finely make sure that I do have a neck, and my head is not directly attached to my shoulders lol..
6..(to be mean).. I can look at people doing low fat diets, starving, getting nervous breakdowns, and not loosing anywhere near to my loss pace, and telling to myself.. ok now it is time for your pork steak and cream cheese

I get a better night's sleep and wake up a lot earlier than I use to when I was 40 lbs heavier.
My lower back doesn't hurt anymore.
I'm not so "cloudy" minded... it's hard to explain lol.
This isn't physical but mental... I have self-control now that I never thought I had.
(I'm not on Induction but extended induction, by the way, for four months or so now)
Weight loss currently on hold! Baby due 11/22/09

      Weight loss goal: 160 lbs
      Re-starting early next year sometime

Re: what has changed for you since changing your way of eating???

i have noticed i don't need to nap every single day. before doing atkins, i would go to the barn for a few hrs in the morning and need to come home and sleep before going to work. not anymore! now i can work all day, barn all evening and still not feel tired. i feel a lot less foggy/clouded headed, too. when i first started researching atkins, i read about these "side effects" and really thought that they would not happen to me, since i have had to nap for a couple yrs now (i'm getting old, haha :P) but they have! that alone makes this woe worht it!

I started Jan. 5. Biggest changes so far are that I have more energy and seem to need less sleep. The "bad" changes are the nasty taste in my mouth (which should end soon) and that my period is whacked out. I successfully used Adkins back in 1997 and lost 60 pounds but didn't continue on to my goal weight. I'm not the same person that I was then and WILL reach my goal this time around.

Hi! I started on Monday January 26. I had lunch today with my mom and she told me that my gut looked smaller. That is a nice change. Then the worst change is my stinky breath.

Re: what has changed for you since changing your way of eating???

Might be TMI for the boys but...here goes. I'm on my second week and no cramps, which is INSANITY. never happend before. I normally get headaches before and during that time, which has at most lasted 3 days in the past. But i noticed my 7th day on induction, also my 7th day on THAT. It suddenly occurred that i had had no migraines or cramps the whole week. Which is amazing. MIRACLE. So I would stick to this without the weight loss. Though i am working out 30 minutes every day, so i think that could be part of it too.

Sadly i fell off the wagon...HOWEVER im back on starting today 8/21/09 (176lb)

Like kimbat06 said, the cloudy brain thing is gone. You don't realize you were 'fuzzy headed' until it stops and you experience 'clarity.' When I am eating sugar it is like I live in a fog.

Energy is great, don't even want to lol around in bed and it is so much easier to get up for work, I don't get the pain/numbness I was getting in one of my legs after I stand a while, my nails are very strong and growing fast. Complexion is wonderful, think that is the water and flax. Skin isn't drying out, even with the winter heating.

My 16 year old has said to me three times in the last week, "Mom, your'e so pretty!" My face is losing a 'bloated ' look it had.

But I think the biggest thing is.. I am in control. I don't crave donut holes and cream cheese icing by the spoon. Those cravings can be all but uncontrollable! Now I get a little hungry, and there are things I can eat just fine that I know will do me good. It is a great feeling.
