  • UK & Sausages/Frankfurters

Can any UK member let me know of any sausages or frankfurters that they eat that are safe on the induction? I've looked all over the place and can't find any that aren't high in carbs, sugar or have wheat in them.

I'm going to be on induction for at least the next six months and I'd love to occasionally gobble down a sausage or two when I fancy a treat.

At Tescos they sell a brand of sausages called "The Black Farmer". They are very low in carbs and don't have any horrible additives. They also taste good too!

I think they cost £2.59 for a pack of 6.

Yay thanks for that, I'm going to get my OH to look for them.

Devon rose (Devon Rose Free-From | Sausages (14 products)) make a range of lowcarb meats including sausages. Not cheap as they are also organic/free range. They also do a nitrate free bacon (Devon Rose Free-From | Nitrate free dry cured bacon (6 products))

The do supply some retail outlets if you don't want to order online and live near one of them.
Voted the UK’s best online butcher, delivering free-range chicken, grass-fed beef and properly sourced British meat nationwide. Trusted by 8,000+ five-star reviews.

Otherwise most German-style sausages (bratwurst, bockwurst etc) are low carb as they tend to be just made of meat and spices, unlike British bangers which normally have a large percentage of filler like rusk or breadcrumbs in them.

But as with all processed foods, check the list of ingredients as well as the nutrition table.

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

That's a great site thanks. I love German sausages but I'm allergic to one type of them and seeing as I can't remember which I better stay clear of them!

              Hi UKAmmie

Tesco also do a lovely Venison sausage which is 100% Venison & spices quite expensive but a lovely change.

Also I peeked at your fitday, I see you are eating Corned Beef. I loved corned beef but unless you have found a brand that dosen't contain sugar one of the biggest ingredients next to beef & salt in Corned beef is Sugar, you might want to check your ingredients on the side. I came unstuck yesterday with some parma ham although it was dry cured it was dry cured with sugar as one of it's biggest ingredients!

              They hide sugar everywhere nowadays

Hiya, I've just checked the corned beef ingredients and found sugar listed. I'm devastated. I've been eating it all week as I just fancied an alternative to cooked meat. Oh well I guess that's off my list as of now which is a shame as I was just about to have some for my dinner with veggies.
Thank you very much for the heads up, you live and learn. Sigh.. goodbye corned beef salad. Why can't something that says "Made with 100% beef" just be made with 100% beef and that's it? Who'd add sugar to corned beef?

                *goes off on a tangent

The bratwurst sausages are really lovely!! I bought them from Aldi. They are big sausages that don't shrink when cooked which is great. They cost £1.89 for a pack of 6. Highly recommend them!

And if all else fails in finding those goodies - one can normally talk the local butcher into making rusk free sausages...

Make sure you check the ingredients before buying as a couple fo years ago I emailed them asking what was in them (as their website only gives nutrition info, not ingredients).
They might have changed but in October 2007 they were not induction-friendly becasue of the soy flour and they did contain dextrose (aka sugar)

I would give that mattessons item a very wide berth if I were you!!!

The Non-UK Beef protein casings is a banned ingredient in the sausage as being too dangerous to eat YET they put the stuffing inside them nah stick to good old plain meat products surely the whole idea is to steer as clear as possible from horrible over processed stuff

Thanks for your suggestion huli. I'd of given them a go but after the info DebbieW has provided (thank you DebbieW), I think I will leave it. They do look delish though!

My Great British Sausage Hunt is still under way. I've emailed for info about all the ingredients in The Black farmer sausages. And my OH is going to my local butchers to see how much it would cost to make up some 100% beef/pork rusk free bangers as was suggested to me. Guess what he had for dinner today? Sausages!
