Help...where did I go wrong today??

  • Help...where did I go wrong today??

    I am on day 8 of induction...i have been only in small ketosis each time i check. So i decided to cut out diet sodas to see if that would change anything. Today my menu was breakfast...eggs and bacon, Lunch...hamburger patty, dinner...tuna steak with zuccinni, asparagus and mushrooms...and one sugar free Jello. I had tons of water to drink all day and nothing else....tonight my ketostix said NOTHING...no ketosis...?? Why...what am i doing wrong. Also....in these 8 days i have only lost 2 pounds. My boyfriend has lost 15 pounds. Today he ate the same foods as me and was not in ketosis tonight either?? Help us please...

    SF jello uses aspartame.... not splenda.... a "no-no" per Dr. Atkins.

      There is no such thing as big or small ketosis. You either are in ketosis or are not. What is shown by the ketostix depends on a lot of things... and you can read about them here: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...tix-color.html

      Good move! Diet sodas, unless sweetened with splenda or other "legal" sweetener, are not allowed on Atkins. Even then, you should count 8 oz of soda as one serving of sweetener (you are allowed max. 3 servings of sweetener a day).

      First of all, you should spread your veggies throughout the day to avoid blood sugar spikes. That being said, what amount of veggies did you eat? During induction, you should be eating three cups -- 2 cups of salad veggies and 1 cup of veggies from the "other" list OR 3 cups of salad veggies. Make also sure your fat-carbs-protein percentages are close to 65-5-30.

      You might be doing nothing wrong. Drinking more water can dilute the ketones in your urine, hence a possible negative read.

      Also....in these 8 days i have only lost 2 pounds. My boyfriend has lost 15 pounds.
      How much do you have to lose? What is your height/weight? During induction (i.e., at the end of the 2 weeks), you can expect a loss of 5-10% of your excess weight. As to your boyfriend's loss... men usually lose much faster, so don't compare yourself with him.
