  • **I QUIT** a new journey begins

    Hi Folks, ha

Many of you know my battle with numerous addictions in my life - especially if you've been in the Addiction or Depression Forums. But I'll spare you the long boring story and just leave it as I've been a heavy and I mean heavy three pack a day smoker for years, longer than many of you reading this have been alive!

    Well, as usual I digress!

A few nights ago I had a major computer crash, long story short, my last resort was to do a complete system restore which basically means I wiped my hard drive clean, re installed everything and of course because I'm one of 'those people" who never back anything up..I lost a lot work...a lot. Over 100 eBay auctions, photographs, and about 80% of a project I was working on since October 2004

In the long run? small potatoes....you can replace everything but those you love

But, and here's my point - as I was working away and smoking away, one after the other until those first rays of light peeked through the window I had the computer up and running and it was time to take the pooch out for a walk or rather at 140 pounds he takes me.

Now even though I'm walking 2 miles a day with WATP...I still needed to sit on a bench and rest and of course smoke.

We headed back home and at 730 AM on Friday, March 20th I threw every ashtray, every cigarette in the garbage, I'll never smoke again - ever.

Is the withdrawal awful? Yeah pretty much but I've been through worse and it occurred to me how much our very existence and the quality of our lives depends entirely on our choices.

Do we reach for that soda or that bottle of water? Do we sneak that cookie or fight through that craving any way we can because we know...we know what the cookie will do to us, emotionally and physically. Sometimes we punish ourselves and sabotage ourselves for reasons I don't claim to understand.

But I do understand this, every moment of every day we're all faced with choices and often we have to make them under distress and conflict. We can keep our mouths shut and not demand Atkins friendly foods - or we can simply choose to stay the course. Is there a stigma with Atkins? for the misinformed for the ignorant and for those who resent your success there is. You can choose to cater to them or fight for our own way of life.

If you're on Induction, Ill keep beating the same drum I've been pounding since I joined this forum - do it by the book, give it a fair chance and if your hurting, if your suffering remember it's temporary - you'll emerge stronger and wiser from the experience of sticking to your low carb no frankenfood guns.

But the choice is yours, and you may find yourself having to make them 1,000 times a day. But the more you opt for the one you know is better for you the closer you get to your goals...and those tiny steps? They become huge leaps of faith before you even realize it.

So don't give in, don't back down ..Ride this wave as long as you live and if you fall? Just get back up!

Failure isn't defined in slipping up - it's defined in staying down.

Anyway, sorry for the long post...but when are mine ever short?

    Peter ha

OH PETER!! Believe me, you will be so thankful that you quit. You are going to feel so much better, live longer and more productive life, smell better, foods will taste better, and you will even look better. YOU CAN DO IT.

You are so right, we all make choices. Addictions tie us down and make us weak. You are eating better, feeling better and now you are thinking more of yourself than of feeding your addiction. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

If you need motivation, just holler. I'm so proud of you for making this decision!!! I quit and I've never regretted it. You can too!!!

Good for you, Peter!! Good for you....

Remember that one of the many benefits of not smoking is that you'll get longer hugs, because you won't smell like smoke anymore!! :hug

Holy crap Peter - you have my admiration for kicking a 3 pack a day habit. I'm down to under a pack a day (was up to way over 2 packs a day) and even that was ****.

Anyway I'm wishing you a pleasant withdrawal

What type of dog do you have and where are the pics??

                        Congrats on the quitting Peter

Just let me say that by day 4 any cravings are really psychological.

It takes 28 days to form a habit so just hang in and get in the habit of not smoking.

I am on day 30 of my smoking quit

                        May I just suggest quitnet

Now Peter I loooove your Positivity!!!! Come here you :hug lemme give you a hug. I am so happy for you to dig within yourself to do whats best for you. So, many people just give up and say they can't do anything about it and I'm one who never quite believed in that junk, because if there's a will, there gotta be some kind of way. Its a Blessing to have the willpower that can move mountains. I love your joy you bring and I wish you the very best.

You prove that almost anything can be achieved once you set your mind to it. I´m very impressed with you, all the wise choices you´ve made inspire me to do the same. I just wish I could give you a big hug for being so supportive and inspiring! :hug
