I probably know the answer to this, which is to follow the simple rules of induction laid out in the book. But with all of the LC foods available now, is it more just sticking to 20 grams of carbs per day? I'm just wondering if protein shakes/bars are acceptable as long as they are LC during induction. Thanks everyone!

Re: What exactly does a clean induction mean?
When we use the expression "Clean induction" we mean by the book strictly. That means only eating foods that are on the allowed list in DANDR (Dr. Atkins New Diet Revoution, 2002). Everything else would not be allowed. So that means that bars and shakes are not allowed.
I really think it is super important to have most of your carbs in induction come from vegetables. Eating plenty of vegetables is one of the fundamental steps towards leading a long and healthy life.

Re: What exactly does a clean induction mean?
It's been our collective experience on ADBB that the low carb bars, shakes, etc. have a tendency to stall or slow weight loss. So we don't recommend them during Induction.
Eating whole, natural, minimally processed and refined foods is what our bodies need to be healthy.
You might want to read this article from the folks at Weston A. Price Foundation about the nutritional benefits of those bars and shakes: Hyperbole Meets High-Tech: Slick Sales Talk and Modern "Energy Bars" by Sally Fallon and Mary G. Enig, PhD~Megs~
