  • Need some help

I am on day five of Induction and have 40lbs to lose. I feel okay for the most part but I wonder if I'm really making any progress. I feel a little bloated and not like I'm losing anything. Even though the scale indicates one pound down I don't feel happy. Is that normal five days in given the amount I have to lose? Also is my menu okay?

    This is my typical day:
    Breakfast
    2 eggs scrambled/boiled etc.
    3 pieces turkey bacon
3 slices of a small tomato/1.5 cups lettuce
    Lunch
    Chicken fried/baked etc
    1.5 cups Shredded cabbage cooked
    Dinner
    2 Hamburger patties
small lettuce and tomato salad with mustard

I don't snack because I don't eat dairy due to allergies and the options are limited. Also I don't generally feel like it. I use fitday to track how much carbs I eat and so far I have managed to stay on target.

I drink lots of water. No sweets, juices, diet sodas, teas, nothing. I started out using mayo but found that it had sugar so I stopped about two days ago. Am I on the right track or is something off. I don't feel encouraged.

Looking forward to any help I can get.

    Hiya...

Firstly I would say that you are having your three cups of veg (therfore your carbs) at brekkie and lunch - then ALSO having a salad with your dinner - this could easily be pushing you above your 20g of carbs.. Also you should be keeping to one cup of cabbage (you can still have 2 cups of salad as well as one cup of cabbage, but keep to one cup as contains more carbs than the salad veg)

Also take a look at your processed meats - are your hamburger patties 100% beef? Have they, or your turkey bacon, got any sneaky added ingredients such as sugar? (check your mustard for sugar too)

On the bright side... 1lb in five days is great... if you are disappointed try and resist the urge to weigh before your two weeks is up and don;t forget to measure the tape measure often shows great results when the scales are sticking...

I agree with Fleur pay attention to the cup limitations of veggies. But really good job at spreading them out.

Maybe you are not getting enough fat. Since you are doing fitday - check the percentage of where your calories are coming from. We are aiming for 65 from fat, 5 from carbs, 30 from protein

There may be hormonal changes causing water retention (period coming up?)
You can have mayo. If the sugar added is not high on the list of ingredients.

You're so right about the vegetables. I have got to watch those . How could I have missed that? The hamburgers have beef, pimento and salt but I have to check the turkey bacon and the mustard as well.

The sugar on the mayo is mid way to low on the ingredients list. I will check out how much fat I am getting on fitday. I did use a tape measure and recorded a half inch off most areas but I thought it was a fluke or faulty measuring.

Thanks for the advice guys. I really appreciate it.

Now how to resist that scale.....

Simple... don't have one in the house! Weigh in at the docs/gym/chemists! I waited 6 weeks for my first weigh in (last week) and saw a great 19lb loss, up until then I had been relying on the measure, which kept me motivated

corald, down here in the south, Duke's Mayonnaise is really good and has no sugar.

I don't know how widely available it is.

But boiled eggs with a little mayo and a squirt of spicy brown mustard is a lifesaver to me. I like it better than deviled eggs and it's a lot easier! Don't know how I'd do without the mayo!
