  • My first post

    Hi,
I'm trying atkins again. I weigh more today than I weighed the day I had my son almost 16 years ago! I disgust myself. My sweet husband says I'm perfect, which is probably why I've let it get this bad.
I recently moved from FL to WI and I think to comfort myself from the huge change in everything, I started stuffing my face.
I would appreciate any tips for induction. I tried it a few years ago. I really, really need to do this right this time.
    Thanks to all!!!

    Re: My first post

Hi! I am new to this board as well; I tried Atkins a few years back and was on the same roller coaster as you; my hubby loves me "just the way I am" but I don't love "me". I, like you, weigh more now than when I was 9 months pregnant with my sons.

I started Atkins again, in January and stuck to it religiously. I found the first three days were a bit of a challenge; and I had to get used to drinking lots of water, which is something I never did religiously before. I tried the decaffinated coffee, and did that for a week, but was experiencing headaches. I guess I am a caffine addict, so that is the only think I don't drink, but I do drink the cream.

I think what worked for me was eating lots of salads, and drinking the water and no snacking after supper. Eat till I am full and that's it. It's habit, really, and I think once you get into the habits of drinking the water and just totally not eating bread, rice, (which I love by the way) you fill up on other things which isn't so bad. Oh, and no drinking. I LOVE red wine, but, I cut that out too. That was the hardest for me.

Right now I am plateauing, and I don't know why, other than I haven't walked or done much exercise in the past week, so I am going to try and step that up a bit.

I used to have such a "bomb" body at 5'7" and 140 pounds. The past 4 years I let it get out of control, and when I was pushing 175 and saw this lard around my waist and my butt, I would cry and think, what's happened to me???

Well I am down to 164 and holding. I was 160 at one point and went up four pounds and am holding, and that scares me. My goal is 150 by the summer. I am NOT giving up! I write my weight down every single day, and I find that keeps me motivated and accountable to me, which is something I never did before.

Anyways, I am rambling here.....if you have the motivation and the will to look and feel great, you will succeed, like me. And like me, I need support from friends out there. So, good luck! You can do it! Just keep focused and don't give up. Stick to the rules and in no time I am sure you will be where you want to be!!

Make sure you have the book! Make sure you READ the book. Highlight in the book. Make notes in the margins. Get a notebook for a journal to keep track. Measure yourself from neck, bust, bisep, waist, hips, butt, thigh, calf. Then keep track monthly to SEE those changes. You will be amazed!

Get the food you will need. DON'T let yourself run out of legal food! That is a big problem!

Exercise! No matter how bad you feel, go walk a mile. If you already like to exercise Great! If not you will probably begin to like it the more you do it.

I did the same thing when we moved to GA from NC. I was so depressed I wouldn't go anywhere and explore our new place. I just stayed home and ate all day! When I saw my pic from last Easter I was so disgusted! I hope to reach 140 but the weighloss is slowing down. I am at 160 now.

I know you can do this! You just have to remember to celebrate (without food, of course) every little victory. Set small goals and set a reward = 10 lbs/manicure, 20 lbs/ new perfume, 30 lbs/ new undies! I just bought new undies and bra last night! They feel so great! My others were falling off!

        Welcome Kimbyplum.
Wow you got some great advice already. Mine would be the same, follow the rules. They do work. Don't be afraid to eat. Eating (legal stuff) is important on Atkins.
Also hanging around here reading, asking questions and connecting can be a great motivational factor.
