    You won't like this advice...

You're just starting, so my advice is to let the cold run it's course and when you are healthy to start the diet. When you switch over from a carb-burning metabolism to a fat burning one, you're body will under go numerous changes. I don't think you need this added physicial and mental stress on top of a cold.

There's lots you can do in the meantime though, like work on drinking your 64+ oz of water a day(when I was sick this winter, it was really easy to drink the water for some reason!) and avoid sugars and other bad carbs...your body doesn't need them when you're sick anyway, right?
Get well, and we'll see you in fine form when you're ready!

          Hi Gillybaby, :wave

I'm sorry your sick! there's never a good time to have a cold...one thing you can is look for an over the counter product called Zicam it's been proven to lessen the severity and lengths of colds by as much 65% here's their website

Find out all you need to know about the products and methods of Zicam.™ Shorten the duration of your cold with Zicam™ Cold Remedy when taken at the first sign.

I know you're in the UK so dont know if it's available there...all it really is - is a massive dose of Zinc - research shows that even more than vitamin C zinc has real power in treating colds....so send one of your mates to the Pharmacy!

Get LOT'S of bed rest, make yourself some chicken soup yummm! and it'll make you feel better, simmer a chicken in enough water to cover by a few inches, throw in all kinds of greens, parsley and basil if you like, salt and pepper....20 minutes later...soup!

And chicken fat helps you heal as well...so get plenty of sleep, pamper and baby yourself and know that it'll pass

          Hope you feel better!

              Hi Gilly, :wave

With Grandma taking care of you, you couldn't possibly be in better hands - they have magical powers!

Keep drinking that wonderful British Tea and perhaps get a menthol or eucalyptus based product like vicks - vapo rub for your chest (not sure if they sell that in the UK...but there has to be something similar)
Nice hot steam from your shower should be nice too, anyway I'm happy you have your grandma watching over you and you'll be back to your old self before you know it.

              Feel better soon,

              Peter :hug

Hey Gilly...You get some rest and relaxation, and have plenty of vitamin C and chicken soup.

I have to admit that I'm the weird one of the bunch, as I caught a cold a few days prior to starting the program....and I think it helped me kick the cold quicker. Might just have been the influx of veggies and water...

Or maybe it was the Buckley's Cough Syrup. MAN, but that stuff is vile!

Hope you don't wind up with a cough like I did. Just get better :yes

                    cold

I went out and spent $400 on atkins friendly food and 3 days into it I had a bad sore throat and it kept egtting worse. I didn't want to "waste" the ketosis that I finally got in, so i bought some throat medicine (robutussine) and after just one serving I was out of ketosis.

I then discovered robutussin makes some type of carb free cough syrup for diabetics and i got that and it worked.

You can also buy carb free chicken broth and warm up a few cans of that and drink it.

No need to wait to start atkins.
