  • Water Intake

Hi Everyone! So far I am on Day 7 of my Induction diet and I have been doing well. I feel great I started an excersise program and I haven't cheated yet as far as I can tell (except for the low carb beer mishap)

My question today is that I have been having a hard time drinking more than about 32 to 40 oz. of water a day, and I have seen many posts about drinking 64 oz per day. Is this a major problem that will screw up my results or will it just reduce or slow down the results of my induction diet? So far I have been staying away from the scale until day 14 as suggested in another post I read on ADBB so I feel good but not really sure how its going.

    Hi Busydad, :wave

Water is definitely an essential part of Atkins getting that 64 ounces in is easy for some and very difficult for others.

Do yourself a favor, buy bottled water in 24 ounce sport bottles, fill up a bottom veggie draw or dedicate a part of the fridge where you can stack em' up. This way it's not only incredibly convenient because each time you open the fridge you just a grab a water and you know at any given time how many ounces you've had.

If you like your water ice cold - the lower to the bottom of your fridge the better.

Toss a few bottles in the freezer, they wont explode the plastic expands as they melt down throughout the day you'll have access to cold water.

Congrats on putting the scale away! I think your doing great!

Before Atkins I used to drink maybe one glass of water a day, and to go to 64+ ounces a day was a huge stretch for me. At first I would drink one eight ounce glass on the hour. I discovered that if I didn't have anything to measure the water with, that eight swallows of water roughly equalled 8 ounces. I kept losing track of how much water I drank though.
I ended up buying myself a snazzy red 32 oz sport bottle, and I know that I have to drink at least 2 of them a day and that keeps me on track. I always drink more than that, but somehow, mentally, knowing the minimum is two seems to work for me and make it less intimidating.
This bottle is always within reach...always...and I am constantly sipping out of it. It's a habit that you have to work on, as far as I can see.

Find out what works for you and run with it.
Personally, I prefer room temperature water as opposed to cold. I find I can drink more at a go when it's room temp.
I find I have certain times of the day when I can really work on my water consumption. I can't at work because I can't have my bottle out on the sales floor, but before work, and then after, glug glug.

If it helps, put a slice of lemon in your water, or a slice of cucumber, to give it a fresh taste.
Just keep working on it...you'll have this figured out in no time! :yes

What helped me drink more water was the thought that the more water I drank, the easier it would be for my body to flush the fat out of my system.

In the beginning I had hard time just drinking 8 oz of water per day, now i can do 100 easy. It gets easier over time and you might even find your body craving more water, mine does - even while I'm drinking it!

I think I figured it out

Thank you for all of the tips.

It worked and I was able to figure out a way to drink my 64oz per day. I thought about the different size bottles of water and went to the 7 eleven and bought two 1 liter bottles of water which happen to be approx. 32oz apiece.

I drank one in the morning at my desk, and I drank the 2nd just before dinner when my snack cravings are at there worst.

WOW after dinner I was up to go about every 20 minutes! Which I assume is the point of all the water.

thanks everyone for the tips, Its really great having the ADBB and all its members around for advice, encouragement, and support.

          Have a Great Day ha

            Welll...

I found the easiest way to get in all my water is to either buy a 24oz water bottle or buy multi-packs of 20oz bottles. With the 24oz bottle if you can drink 3 of them a day, you've got 72oz right there. With the 20oz, I drink 2 a day while at work, and then I have a 20oz cup at home I get in anywhere from 3-5 of those a day.

They say it is good drink at least 64oz and then add an additional 8oz for every 25lbs you want to lose. Also most of the weight you lose during induction is water weight, so the water intake is a neccessity.

I hope this helps, and I wish you much Success!

Yes, I peed my brains out for the first month or two, but that gets better with time.
