  • **ADBB THE VIEW FROM HERE** well my perspective anyway

    Hi Folks, :wave

I've been thinking about how much has changed since I joined this Board on February 22nd and it's pretty unbelievable and if you give me just one minute, I'll give you a few highlights:

*Vitamins:I've never been interested in Vitamins, never cared for em' never took em'. I know Dr. Atkins believed so much in vitamin and nutrient therapy as a base for good health, prevention and for enhancing the diet of his patients. After reading posts in the Vita Nutrient Forum, I became intrigued. Found out the Moderator of that Forum Shawnee had cured his Diabetes by following a simple regime. Long story short, I'm taking an entire menu of supplements and vitamins and have never felt better.

Plus I've learned what they're for, how they work and I can't stop doing research both on ADBB and the web - always great to have a new interest.

*Exersize: You think you hate to exercise, I've hated it for 47 years Ive gone from Jabba the Hut to Mr. Marathon man...well I may still look like Jaba the hut but as I tell people trapped inside this body of mine is a 25 year old gymnast!...kidding aside the recommendations made for an exercise program well suited for me, was made by the folks on this board. I'm walking two miles a day and not doing it feels worse then doing it so it looks like I'm trapped. But it's in a good place to be trapped in because it requires me to actually get up move 30 minutes a day - I love it.

*Addiction: My intention was to never stop smoking, I've been a hard-core three pack a day smoker for a long, long time. But the time spent in the Addiction forum had me re thinking my priorities as far as my health and beyond just weightloss. Today is my 5th day smoke free.

*Computers: I'm a geek who loves anything technical, anything about computers and new gadgets. The Geek Forum has been essential to me in re configuring parts of my computer, answering questions to issues I've never under stood and providing solutions to problems.

*Fun: I spend a lot of time on the board, believe me I get back 10 fold compared to what I contribute but I've had some great laughs in the Chit Chat Forum, always a game to play, a joke to be heard, a story to be shared.

*Weight Loss: Oh that, it's easy to over look but I'm down ten pounds, I lose at a very slow rate and that's fine with me. The century Club is a Forum where I can feel at home with other folks who have 100+ pounds to lose and although I may be less a poster there and more a lurker, those folks face this journey with laughter, joy and unconditional support. They help keep me on track.

What's the point of all this and what the heck is he writing about?

Good question and you deserve an answer so I'll wrap it all up. You can do a lot here...more than you might imagine. Forget about losing weight for the moment and know that you can do virtually anything from learning to cook to learning how to train your dog! You can open up entire new chapters of your life simply by sticking your head in a forum and either lurking or participating.

Like anything and everything in life you get out of it what you put in, and trust me, you can get plenty out of this Board - including the precious gift of Friendship, friendship not based on your looks or your social status, friendship not based on judgments made on the size of your body but rather -- the size of your heart.

Just a a few thoughts, the rest is up to you.

    Peter ha

Dear Mr. Jabba (I love that lol), As amazing as all the accomplishments you listed are, I have to say this is the one that brought a huge smile to my face. I'm so proud of you. And I'm so happy for you, for all you're doing and all you will be doing on your Atkins journey :hug :joy

I KNOW THE FEELING!! I started running in November 2003 and I'm still doing it today!! When I started, running 6 blocks continuously took everything I had .. well guess what .. I'm up to 7.5 miles a day!! YES, AND NOT DOING IT FEELS WORSE THAN DOING IT, THUS I AM STILL RUNNING!!

CONGRATS, PETER, ON BEING SMOKE-FREE!! YOU ROCK!

        Peter,

That was well said. I'm always telling people who are complaining about how slow their weight-loss is that if they relax and enjoy the journey -- then they don't have time to dwell on how slow it happens. It seems it actually goes faster when you are busy making friends to share it with.

Congratulations on your 5th Smoke Free day!!
