I've heard to avoid atkin products during induction. But I have been drinking 1 atkin's shake daily since starting induction 4 days ago and I'm down 9 pounds. It gets me through the morning and through my cravings. Is this a bad thing?

    Re: atkins shakes

They are not the best choice as many folks find that they stall them. This board goes by Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002, and during the first two weeks we recommend that you stick to the acceptable list, period. No shakes, no bars, as they are junk food with an Atkins label.
I would recommend saving them for later

If you do decide to use any of these products you need to do 2 things.
      1. Look at the list of ingredients as many of them have ingredients that are not allowed on induction.
      2. Look at the balance of fat/protein/carbs (you can add them as a custom food if you have a www.fitday.com 'account' ) to see what sort of ratios they will give you. On induction we aim at about 65% fat/30% protein/5% carbs.

As for the shakes as far as I know they have more protein than fat so would not give you this percentage. To get the ratios right you are going to have to add more fat to them.

Remember Atkins is NOT a high protein way of eating so adding protein-rich drinks that are not also high in fat will make you likely to be ingesting too much protein, and Dr Atkins told us that excess protein would be converted into glucose!!

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
